Speaking of state holidays, here is a list of Texas State Holidays:

Confederate Heroes Day
(January 19, always somewhere near MLK Birthday, this year it was on the day after. The irony is endless.)

Texas Independence Day (March 2)

San Jacinto Day (April 21)

Juneteenth
(June 19, 1865 was the date that African-American slaves in Texas found out about the Emancipation Proclamation. Note that the Civil War had already ended.)

LBJ's birthday
(August 27, my personal favorite).

I'm surprised we don't have a Fajita Friday holiday or a Remember the Alamo day.

We also get all the National Holidays.

Federal and state government offices are closed and so are many school systems, at least here in Texas.

So you have an antiblack holiday and a holiday celebrating the end of slavery in Texas?

Yeah my drive in was awesome! no one in line at tims!! Oh and I found a great way to transport my tea in my car. I put a microfiber in the cup holder then the cup so any spillage gets absorbed up into the microfiber + it holds the cup more firm. I still only make it to work with half a tea thats drinkable, but I am working on a solution for that next

Yup. Also the antiblack holiday is deliberately set near the holiday celebrating the greatest black leader in our country's history. Texas politics ain't like any other politics.

Echo419, I understand your point, in fact I have a half dozen ancestors who fought with the 61st Georgia Infantry in the Civil War (Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg and others) but in this case the Confederate holiday was placed near MLK as a deliberate insult by some redneck politicians here. My Confederate ancestors fought with great courage and valor and I honor them for that, but in the end it doesn't change the fact that they were on the wrong side of history. This does not diminish their sacrifice for what they understood to be their duty.

And Echo, we aren't discussing politics, we are discussing holidays.

And as for the tea... why don't you use a thermal cup that closes?

I'm going to send you a PM.

edit: if you think the Emancipation was done as a humanitarian effort I've got bad news.
