That's an EZ-Out.

For the original question, there's no harm in using a bleeder screw in place of the regular allen key, it'll seal the hole just the same. Just remember to bleed from the right one

Unbolt the caliper from the bracket, invert it and bleed accordingly. When done re-install. It will be tedious and it will suck for future bleeds.

^^ I wouldn't bleed like that, you'll have to remove the pads to retract the pistons after doing that unless you happen to hold it in place on another part of the disc while bleeding.

I don't remember there being anything special about the allen head plug, so if you want to find some in the same thread size and pitch with the same number of threads you should be fine using them.

I would think that it has something like an -AN taper to seal the caliper.

Bleeders are cheap, readily available and you know they will fit. You could try finding a generic plug, but in the end I'm guessing bleeders will be the easy option.

I am in the same boat as the OP. I got a pretty beat up set of 2004 STI Brembo's for next to nothing. I have the entire calipers apart for powdercoat/rebuild except for the 4 stripped allen heads. It is like they are welded in there. I used PB blaster, and heat before attempting them.

An EZ out on a 20V litihium drill wasnt strong enough either. Going to reattempt with a plug-in drill tomorrow.

To revive an extinct thread....

Just did this last night...fortunately my family owns a chrome plating factory with a decent maintenance department with access to some useful tools...

I heated them up pretty hot with a torch as many suggested. Got 3/4 out clean using an impact gun to break them loose. There appears to be loctite on the threads that needs to be heated to a certain temperature in order to free them.

The one I stripped, I just hammered in the next size up *english* (as opposed to the 5mm I was using) allen fitting, heated up even more, then backed it out...no problem. You can't use enough heat on these things. I had my entire calipers warm/hot by the time the screws backed out...
