I doubt Haas is thinking in terms of how they can help other drivers. With the disruption of the team just before a new season KM brings experience and a history of fitting in well with the team, which both are major points right now. They know what they’re getting so no surprises.

To be fair to KMag, the last couple cars Haas built were pretty inconsistent themselves. They had a lot of issue with the car behaving very very poorly in dirty air. If you look at 19' their qualifying wasn't bad, but in the race they would drop like a rock, they were having a lot of issues with the diffuser stalling in low to medium speed corners when following another car. They kinda tried to fix it in 20' though at that point they knew the new regs were coming and weren't putting much money into fixing it. 21' was just a 20' car updated to meet new regs.

Hence my comment, on him driving for HAAS the majority of his F1 career, which has probably affected my view on him. I don't dislike the guy, I just find him rather normal compared to the other drivers on the grill. But considering all the variables of his signing, it made the most sense for HAAS to bring a familiar face back which could help with sponsorships and money.

Educated guess on the Merc sidepod and the loophole it is exploiting. Sidepod talk starts at about the 5 min mark.

Herta getting to test the 21’ Mclaren. I figured it would be Haas to give him a shot and O’Ward testing for Mclaren being he already races for them in Indy.

Gasly and Alpha to shock the grid. Merc to underwhelm for 2 GPs then bust a move as they get a handle on the new ride. Etch this in sand. Ferrari to surprise the bulls.

Was going to comment that RIC may be out for his 1st race but he has now been deemed good to go for the weekend after a negative test.

Looking over the above predictions I would say they are all good as the testing was just that, and we have our expectations what could happen.

The race on Sunday will give us a better view on the interpretation each team has done on the 2022 spec cars and their reliability.
Hope it will be an exiting one to start off the season.
