Honestly, I think Ron Dennis would've made a jump or a decision about the power unit.

For the past two years we've been told that Honda knew what the problems were, but couldn't do anything about it due to the token system. Now that they have a clean sheet to work from, the result is.... even worse??

I'm not a fan of Dennis, he seems to promote a toxic environment as I watched the Alonso meltdown right after Raikkonen bailed and went on to win a championship with a then down and out Ferrari. Sure when things were good everything was peachy, but I expect no miracles out of a Dennis lead team as I started watching during the terrible reliability of 05-06 and there were always cracks in the facade from 07 onwards.

Contracts reign supreme in Western business, the only thing that could change current trajectory would have been a performance clause that would allow Mclaren to break early if Honda wasn't putting up results/too many failures. Even then the FIA is stodgy and probably wouldn't let them change suppliers mid-season.

I just wonder what the hell their options are, Renault? I guess there's not much reason for Mercedes to deny them an engine, but I doubt they'll be cheap... Cold day in hell before we see Mclaren-Ferrari but stranger things have happened.

I find it really disappointing as great as Honda is and as current as they are with Hybrid tec. they can't make a good F-1 engine. Remember the good ole days with Honda's oval pistons?

Ron Dennis was the guy that got them in this mess, though he really had no choice as Merc was never gonna let them win a championship with a customer engine. Shame on Honda for the utter incompetence they have put on display though, complete amateurs. Alonso is as good as gone now, probably chasing the Triple Crown next season with a full WEC season and another Indy 500

Does anyone think McLaren will do a deal with Renault (or do they have some historic bad blood I missed)?

I rather not see McLaren go with Mercedes again. That ship has sailed.

I don't think it's likely. If you are going for a customer engine, might as well go with the best one.

McLaren was actually competitive when they don't have to use Honda?

Yeah I got a smile out of that, especially when I saw how pissed off he was afterwards. Like dude, live by the sword...

British rumor mill saying Mcl is fishing for a Merc engine, but could be politics. Will be curious to see if Alonso is willing to try another year if he's got a Merc engine behind him and a chassis they started developing earlier than anyone else...

Usually when Honda engines can't keep up they will just announce a pullout from Formula 1.

Very entertaining race today. I was surprised at only a 10 second penalty for aggressively slamming your car into someone else's while under safety car...
