FMIC do block a percentage of the radiator with fins and end tanks AND they increase the temp of the air flowing past them.

Ya because they are both intriguing intakes. Got a problem with that? More people deserve to know about them. Compared to the other intakes on the market they are great designs that are different from the more common intakes that do little to nothing.

Our Maxspeed is in the air on the way to us to use on our WR86 development car. Data from the dyno shows a 2kpa pressure drop in the inlet system from around 5800rpm falling away until 8000rpm. If this duct relieves that restriction then it will be worth a few horsepower in stationery (dyno) testing, and possibly a little more at 80mph plus. Time will tell

that's what I was thinking.

Will be great when you are cruising on motorway at 100mph ( 160 km/h) you are in the deep torque in 6th gear so it's some time hard to pass a car that block you just doing 90 mph. Hate those TDI guy's with all their torque.
Also on B road when you have some straight part will help a lot to get descent speed before curve.
On super twisty B road will not help as you don't go often over 100 mph. may be just a few second's

Its a simple fact. Log the manifold pressure of your 86/BRZ in a full throttle pull and you will see that with the stock airbox/snorkel there is a pressure drop (negative boost) in the intake of around 0.1psi. Remove that without some nasty hot air induction system under the hood, and hey-presto you have your gains!

This is nothing new in tuning/modifying cars. Maxspeed should do the job nicely.

Just like every other intake on the market they dont show great gains unless its at its peak. People shouldnt be expecting huge gains with any intake. So far the only 2 intakes that have good gains have been the Injen and Syms. Injen is priced decently while Syms is more expensive. So is GruppeM way too expensive though

3hp at what rpm? Fans used on the dyno?

Do you think one of the silicone intakes on the market would improve this further? Or is the restriction happening in the airbox?

Main restriction happens at the snorkel where it compresses in cross sectional area behind the front bar. Cant really see how a piece of silicone thats twice the size of the entry into the airbox is going to change much other than the appearance under the hood.
