I've found that in the morning when the car isn't warmed shifting is tough or if its really cold. I find only from 1st to 2nd is bad and I have also found all this gets negated if you just double clutch for 1st to 2nd.
Changing tranny flulid also helps as well

Getting into reverse at colder temps is just about next to impossible for me until the transmission fluid warms up on my car. Has about 600 miles on it. Thankfully I'm parking it in the garage till spring. Will be doing a fluid change for sure.

Just put it in 1st and move forward a few inches, then it will go right into reverse real easy, at least that is what I have been doing seems to work fine.

So it's been in the lower 30's upper 20's the last few days, no problem shifting mine. Low humidity in Wyoming though, maybe that plays a part.

I find that 1st gear is super hard to get into when it's cold. It's still not the easiest gear to get into even after warm. I drove a GTI for 11 years before this car and it always went into all the gears effortlessly.
On a positive note.....3rd gear is a dream to get into on my FR-S. It's actually very pleasurable.

When I park in the garage I put it in reverse before I turn it off. Later when I leave the garage it's already in gear.
