Lol mine made a great addition to "spare car parts bin"

But they are intended to be placed somewhere on the rear/side of your car as the states requires that all vehicles have an orange reflector on the front side (wheel well arch on the twins, which my clear sidemarker technically makes me illegal) and a red side marker on the rear/side (was built into the side of the stock taillights, colins dont have any reflector in them, just lights)

If you were local id offer to fix for you :/

Worst case u can cut off the factory ones and splice them onto the new tails, then worry about the stock lights later

Gah, sorry you're having so much trouble. Here's my description above, which you probably saw: "You stick the screwdriver in the side of the harness opposite the wires, and decompress the tiny white tab, by pushing it in the direction AWAY from the wire you are trying to remove...while pulling the wire."

The only thing I can think of is that maybe you aren't pushing the tab AWAY from the wire you're trying to remove...it definitely seems opposite of what you would think. The wifey helped me...so if you have someone with small hands and good eyes, try to get some help!

I guess I need to use a thinner wire than small flat screwdrivers?
Not same connector but similar design...

It took me a fair amount of messing w it before i got the first one, then the second one was easy. Im trying to remember, there was a piece on the side that i popped loose first (doesnt come out but "releases") then i was able to use a thin nail to press on the tab inside the connector and release them from it
