Hmmm.. R 300 odd.. you aren't getting the TRD one.. I have a connection at Toyota locally and can still only get it for R 1,031...

What worries me especially with Toyota parts is that you pay extra for the badge with no significant performance/quality gains - especially with the brakes (R1250 per front disc on my RXi and R750 for pads all ex installation!). Normally a clean stock airfilter has done the job for me on most of my cars. I made an effort to change my airfilter with every service on my RXI (there were times when Toyota didn't recommend it and it could be felt if skipped) Also when messing with airfilters and oil (considering a ram tube and a sock on my Mini) we have to keep our dusty climate in mind. Dirt will kill an engine.

Also on the topic of services - the service book doesn't mention what should be done at each service - I think Matt_RSA will be the first to check this out first hand and let us know.

Ok... So my verdict on the TRD Filter.... The sound is the same as stock in my opinion. The performance however has increased. I can't really say by how much, I would say between 5 to 10 kilowatts, but the only way we could test that would be the Dyno.

5 - 10 kw is that wkw or flywheel you estimating?
Best way to confirm increase in power is to dyno the stock and TRD on the same day.

10 kw from a flat panel filter? There is just no way. I'd put money on it...

Sorry I'm just very skeptical when it comes to filters, I've spent more money on them than I can remember and never got any real gains.

I saw a test where they removed the filter completely and it didn't make any more power.

According to this post the Injen intake does a significant increase in HP for $300.
Give some feedback once you have done a dyno run to see outputs on a change in filter.
