What (if anything) did you do to change it? If nothing, is it possible you just got used to driving it?

All I did was drive it. It was not a case of getting used to it. I think some cars have a bit more friction or stiction if you will in the system. I noticed that as I got past 4,000 miles things started to feel looser. I don't mean that in a bad way as if things are wearing out but in that the tightness from the newness in all of the bushings, steering related joints just freed up a bit.

My '06 GTI was really bad this way and it really did not feel fluid until I got 20,000 miles on the car.

Great thanks for the explanation. I really hope this is the case with the BRZ. My 11 GTI was pretty spot on right out of the gate, same with my 10 Genesis Coupe (although the GenCoupe quickly loosened up, but not in a good way).
