Economy-oriented cars have very different gearing. That probably accounts for 20% of the mileage difference between the FR-Z and a Sentra. It would be nice if the FR-S manual had a Borg-Warner overdrive. That would improve highway MPG.

I owned an RSX. Same weight and engine size as the FR-S. Output about 20% less. The mpg was roughly similar.

I get 28 mpg on a hilly back road commute where my Yaris got 35 mpg, which is pretty good.

The main reason the mpg is a little low is because this car is a bit heavy. Too heavy for a little NA 4 cylinder IMHO. If it had been DIT with taller gears the mpg and the power to weight ratio would have been phenomenal, but it is what it is.

I am happy with the fuel economy... but then again I came from a modded GTi that barely got 22mpg on a good day with a feather light right foot.... I also didnt buy this car for MPG performance, I didnt even look at that, I bought it for the pure driving experience it offers.

Yeah, I can't complain. Went from a slow, huge 4 door sedan that got 12 in mixed driving, less in city, 21 on its best day on the highway. And that's with me driving it in an economical way.

I get 21 average (mostly city) and I drive the snot out of the car. I'm very pleased with it. Yeah, gas might be another $10 for the same amount (yay 93 octane vs lowest possible), but I use far less of it.

I have never owned a sports coupe that gets the 27mpg I am averaging in this car. It is also nice to own a car that gets near or better the advertised MPG.. Hyundai could learn a thing or two from Toyoburu.

My indicator says 7.5L/100km (33mpg) average. Driven 36000 km, manual. Mix of highway and city frequently.

Surprisingly, my Cayman. I haven't been able to get more than 24mpg out of it pretty much ever, but I can get about 21 while driving the hell out of it. Unlike the FRS/BRZ however, I can't make it much better by driving cautiously, so there's not a lot of incentive to.

Again, the Cayman. I've found its gas mileage estimate to be within 0.2mpg every tank, and I do double check by using the actual mileage divided by the number of gallons I put in at each fill up (as should be obvious based on my sig). You're right that it's the exception though - my Subaru Outback is consistently about 1.5mpg optimistic.

I found the dash reported mileage to be near accurate when running ethanol-free gas. With 10% ethanol gas its usually optimistic by about 1-2 mpg.

I used to average 16 MPG's in my G35S. Now I'm averaging around 30 MPG's in the FR-S. Win!

[QUOTE=fistpoint;1249697]Folks, don't forget that the mpg readout is a LIE. we are NOT getting the number shown, actual mileage using the fill tank/divide miles method will always be 1-2mog less.

I take meticulous readings early on in my cars life so that I can check it later on when it's older. If it still gets within 1mpg of brand new, the car is performing well.

This car, like every car I've owned before is giving me the exact same numbers that the stickers showed. In this case my FR-S gets 22 city(readout claims 23-24), 30 highway(claimed 31-32)./QUOTE]

I have checked every single fill up against the in car readout and agree that the estimate is roughly 1 - 2 mpg better than actual. That being said, I live in the mountains and consistently get 32 mpg in normal street driving and roughly 37 mpg on the highway.
