Its looks pretty simple to fabricate a new mat but how about a step by step (with pics) DIY guide when you doing yours?

Thanks, that is quite a bit cheaper than Builder's.

No need, the OEM screw should be able to hold it. It's at home though so I haven't been able to try it yet.

I live with the boot, because I REALLY like having a full sized spare!

Before:

Cleaned up:

The rim was pressing against the metal so I've added some padding:

OEM screw plate - I've added one nut that acts as a spacer.

Next step is to paint it black.

Thanks, getting there.

It definitely gives me a bit more peace of mind knowing there is a spare wheel. I've got a repair kit/compressor but it wouldn't help if you break a rim or sidewall.

Speaking of which, the kit doesn't fit inside the space saver wheel which is a bit of a pity.

We have those moulded boot liners in NZ too that go over the full size spare. They prob won't make them much now given the cars are now not delivered with a spare at all.

They are on ebay sometimes and will likely ship to you. They were here but looks like sold out but keep looking http://www.facebook.com/groups/Toyot...ref=ts&fref=ts

I wonder why they're not at least shipping with a space saver?

BTW
I've read that Subaru in South Africa might be offering a choice between full sized spare, space saver and repair kit.

To be honest I'd still choose the full sized spare and then make my own plan.
