I moderated at Customtacos.com for years and held many meets... I was part of the huge movement of the 05 Tacomas and especially the X-Runner debut... The funny thing was, we didn't just have meets with one kind of truck when we did, we had meets with all generations, all walks of life, on road, off road, some aren't even Tacomas...

The culture is not in the vehicle you drive, those meets are BORING, it's the people you meet and the friends you make out of it...

We also attended all Toyota meets where the car count was beyond 150+, talking Camry to Celicas, Supras to Matrixs(es? Matri?) Tacomas to Scion xA / xB / tC... The host of those meets in our area was a huge Matrix fan, my cousin was in his club too...

I went as far as a San Francisco to Huntington Beach for a meet with my local forum group, we even picked out a place to stay and made it a 3 day 2 night trip... Have people local to Modesto, Napa, Sacramento, San Jose... We literally went ALL OVER the bay and no one really cared what we drove to the meet, so long as we were there... Some even came in a car!

So it is not up to the vehicle you own, it is up to the people here, and the people you meet if you choose to go out there... I have also been a part of the i-club scene when I got the first gen 2002 WRX... Even though we ran Mt. Hamilton with 60+ cars, it wasn't the same... The meets were very boring, no one cared about anyone else, it was just a thing to do because you spent so much time talking to people and thought it was a good idea to show up... Still, if you have 60+ cars show up tho, that's probably 2 people / car at over 100 people, that meet is still a success... Just not my cup of tea...

A good meet is just getting together, picking an activity, and just hang out with people of like interest... My group ended up playing pool, mini golf, go karts, just watched the super bowl over BBQ, ate out many times, photo shoots, etc...

So if you guys want a great experience, it all starts here... Don't look for other people to make things happen, MAKE things happen and watch others follow... The truck I have now is starting to age, the forum ended up being sold off by the original owner, and I rarely visit there now, but I must say it was at least 3 - 5 years out of my life that I had experienced nothing like it... Having my daughter is probably the proudest moment of my life, but being at the meets made me feel more alive sometimes than anything else...

P.S. I do have a life and a lot of friends lol, so no I'm not a weirdo with a computer...

I think in terms of meets and such, this forum has already "united" the two camps.

But I have read posts and talked to quite a few people who have ZERO interest in owning a Scion but still want this car...

I don't have any issues with Scions or their owners, but apparently there is a stereotype that a lot of people don't want to be associated with.

As for me personally, If the Scion does end up being cheaper than the Scoob I'd buy the Scion but probably badge it as the Subaru at some point

Meets are not surprisingly a more "chill" place than the internet, LOL!

Seriously though, everyone at meets just hangs and chats no matter the car or no matter how much they talk trash online. People are just much more nice in person than on the intertubes.

I think it poses a really good question. It's goin to be hard enough as it is with people from so many different tuning backgrounds flocking to this car. It's not really Scion and Subaru guys (face it, few memeber active here are scion people, and the Subbie community is half and half on this, a lot of "herrr derr...awd"). It's going to be Toyota guys (86, MR2, Celica and Supra guys) Rx7 and Miata guys, Civic Si and Integra guys, V-Dub guys, SVX and Impreza guys, 240SX, Z car and Sentra people... It's going to be a pretty eclectic mix of personalities. If we're lucky, we'll have a community of people not defined by what cars they drive, and just are pretty cool car guys all round.... doubt we'd be that lucky.

Will it be called the FT86 Meet ?

Hard to have any rivalry when the cars are pretty much identical. Even the interior is just different color pallettes

I think AS1 meet would be a little more appropriate (chassis designation) for all the models under different badges

Highly doubt that with amount of money Scion puts into it's community driven meets/events they put on each year, such as Scion Exposed.

This is a Subaru engine with Toyota direct injection.

Obviously knowledge of previous Subaru engines will be more applicable to the FA20 than anything any Toyota tuner has ever dealt with.

Will there be differences? Sure. But will there be more similarities with other Subaru engines like the FB20 than differences? Probably.

FB is the third generation Subaru boxer platform, meaning most future Subaru boxer 4s will be based on this engine.

How many other Toyotas use boxer engines? None. How many Subarus use boxer engines?

Oh.

Why is it people speak in conclusions here, that are not based on any factual information? Does it even matter where it comes from, just as long as it's the right information?

We will be united! We basically have the same car, just different front bumpers.

Honestly, looking at some of the ignorant comments about "all Scion/Subaru owners are X" or "Scion/Subaru cars are only for Y" and (my favorite) "I'm too old and won't be caught dead driving a Scion" on this forum I'm sure there will be some tension/division. That being said, the members that make those statements are not going to be missed during the AS1 meets so...
