Will Scion/Toyota and Subaru (AS1) owners be united or divided?

i actually have been thinking about this a lot. what would an frs/brz meet look like? probably mostly frs and brz, but we could potentially see ae86s and other toyotas, subarus, and even scions showing up. it would potentially be quite a diverse crowd! but hey as long as everyone's cool with each other and not attracting attention from the cops in the wrong way i'm down!

Cause Toyota owners have so much experience with boxer engines right? Cause the FA20 is not based off the FB20 that's in the next gen Subaru Impreza right? I forgot, you're right.

What Spaceywilly said. The two cars will be like identical twin siblings wearing different clothes. One won't have any performance advantage over the other, at least on the entry level. Maybe different if Subaru releases the STi and Scion the R Type, but even then I'll bet they'll be the same mods.

We can have FRS/BRZ meets without the rest of the lineup. Which makes this forum more closely nit and personal. vs a forum like NASIOC which spans across many tuner sub communities. We only care about 1 car here, not a maker.

Thank god. We had a meet in upstate PA a couple years back and a lot of Mazdaspeed3 guys showed up. It was kind of awkward, we have nothing in common. Kind of like an annoying little brother who has to mimic you for the sake of mimicking you.

well who has tuning experience with current FB boxer engines? Maybe a hand full of people have experience. Does this mean all EJ tuners will be automatically genius at FB? Maybe? maybe not?

Same goes with people who are really good with a 12a rotary engine..does it make them just as godly tuners on the 20b rotary just because its a rotary?

Or pros at tuning LS1 engines are also pros by default with LS7 engines without any experience.

Im not saying im right, im just saying I dont see a whole lot of Toyota guys going to subaru tuners for advice on this car when, while similar because of subaru technology, is still different.

Unless we are talking about engine swaps or drivetrain swaps.

Im a current subaru tuner on a BH9 Legacy, and iv got plenty of experience with EJ series..but i will not claim to be a FA20 tuner just because iv tooled the EJ.

So you don't see Toyota guys going to Subaru guys for help on a car built at a Subaru factory that is mostly Subaru engineered, or on an engine that is mostly Subaru technology? Oh ok.

This is a Subaru engine with Toyota direct injection.

Obviously knowledge of previous Subaru engines will be more applicable to the FA20 than anything any Toyota tuner has ever dealt with.

Will there be differences? Sure. But will there be more similarities with other Subaru engines like the FB20 than differences? Probably.

FB is the third generation Subaru boxer platform, meaning most future Subaru boxer 4s will be based on this engine.

How many other Toyotas use boxer engines? None. How many Subarus use boxer engines?

Well the thing about Subarus is they're all basically the same thing. For example my car now is an 02 WRX with front brakes from an 06 WRX and rear brakes from an 04 Legacy. I've swapped trunks 3 times and have no idea what year my current one came off of. I'm assuming the ft86 will be compatible with a lot of these parts too and will just become a new part of the Subaru parts bin. It's a good thing I think because you can pick and choose from a lot of different options, and the aftermarket is huge. Lets say the BRZ/FRS comes with sliding calipers and you'd rather have fixed. You can pick up the 4/2pot kit from an 06 or Brembos from an STI. Hopefully that goes for the engine too. Exhaust and suspension will probably not be compatible but I think a lot of stuff will be, especially GR stuff.

Maybe, maybe not. We have to see first. There maybe some standardized parts, but not a lot of thing, IMO.

Well I never go to car show meets, but I've met with fellow owners of the same car at the track, autox, etc and everyone mingles with people who own other cars without an issue.

I can't imagine there'd be a divide here (based on brand), but who knows. I would guess that there'd be a divide between the rice, show, track, drag, etc groups. Not out of anger or anything but out of lack of caring what one group does because it's likely the opposite of what they are interested in.

In the uk I guess we will get along
I run the national Subaru car show the NBO and next year it will be great to have the first of the fr/BRZ at the show
I will even have a separate section for them if there is a dozen or so

As far as online forums in the uk again I think it will be the first forum that gets up and running for the car that will get all the uk members as once one forum is set up everyone will join that one and very rarely to people move ship to another one
