Numerous 100+ runs on the way to work as I was late,....topped out on one at 108mph,...most thrilling tho was a long sweeping corner at triple digits ( no traffic split four lane industrial park area ),,stable as a rock,...I was thouroughly impressed,..little spongy tho on the dampeners,(have 255/40 tires on all four so dont try this at home).....not going to do this often,.....but I seriously let her go today.

I see numerous car reviews where the reported top speed is indicated as "drag limited", so I don't think a governor is required by law. I do know that in Germany there's a sort of gentlemen's agreement among car makers to set the governor to 155mph (or w/e in kph) in part to stave off growing pressure to put a lid on speed-limit-free Autobahnen. Some car makers might put a governor on slower cars e.g. your Civic, for similar reasons as they add a rev limiter - they don't want a bad rap from owners destroying their cars.

I haven't driven our FR-S yet its been two weeks but dad has only gone 63ish at most and hangs out in the slow lane at 55-59mph.

The fastest I've gone ever was 85 downhill in a Corolla while attempting a pass and I did not like it just because of the fact it felt really unsafe.

Vehicle is electronically limited at 169mph. But due to horsepower, drag, tires, etc. top speed seems to be about 145mph depending on amount of highway to work with. The only cars that will hit speed cut are dyno runs or FI cars with some serious tire and aero packages.

Pretty fast on a slight downhill. The car had more to go.

Makes you kinda wonder why they bothered with the governor :P
