First of all
WIN!I love top gear UK! It's si[er entertaining. I don't always agree with the conclusions they draw on a vehicle but who cares, that's not important. It's entertainment, like when Richard and James are playing "car darts" with an air cannon. But it's fun to see them flog the hell out of a lambo or a ferrari or something like that because we all know damn well that hardly any of the people that buy those cars have the balls, the skill, or the adrenaline addiction to beat on one like that. The stig times are good too, the exact same track for every car, and it shows how good a car corners, how good it accelerates and how good it brakes, what more could you ask for? The 'ring' doesn't appeal to me... as said above, it is not a good analog to any other place on earth, track or street. In my opinion, they should test a car on the Isle of Man. That place has horrible roads that people drive on at insane speeds a few days out of the year. That is about as real world as you could get.

If everything was quantitative, objective factors, we'd all probably be driving Mustangs. I'm hoping this car is more about how it drives fast, instead of how fast it can drive.

Topgear hot laps is actually worth something to compare cars in. It is done on the same track with reasonably same conditions (it's England, it's either raining or its not lol) with the same driver
Nurburgring is done with different drivers. That's the difference for me there. And who cares what car you get faster to work in, you should be doing the speed limit lol

im not saying top gear is a bad show or that or subjective factors arent important. what i am saying is that it seems like people are giving too much weight into what these things indicate about cars. every time i see someone whose location is somewhere like california and they say things like flog or zed or comment on ring times its like discrediting anything you are about to say
