At least in the US market, Toyota has clearly showed its intention to make this car more than just a image setter and to actually sell in reasonable volume, the fact that the car is being introduced under the Scion brand is a proof of that.
The importance of this car in their respective vehicle line-ups is much higher for Toyota than Subaru. For Toyata, they really need this car to do well to boost up the declining sales of the Scion brand aside from the fact that Toyota has a new slogan of "Back to the Fun". I would be really surprised if the base price of the Scion version exceeds $23,000. Just my 2 cents. Last edited by balance; 10-27-2011 at 04:12 AM. |

Let's assume that these are the prices. My guess is that based on price alone, more people would go with a Subaru, unless they all of a sudden decide that they're pulling a Scion move. Scion has Pure Price, which means you're paying 25 grand, no ifs, ands, or buts. I'm guessing you could probably haggle down to around 24k or less for the Scooby version.
Still seems a bit high to me. I think 22 is right about where they need to be for both models. Hell, price the Subaru at 500-1000 more because you can haggle that off, if they really want a difference. |

Late Dec 2011 through late March. Generally considered to be Dec-Feb though as a "season".

Not really. The FT86 will offer lower weight, better handling, lower insurance rates, better gas mileage, lower maintenance and repair costs, less expensive tires, and more fun on regular roads than any Subaru or whatever with those specs on the market today. Think Mazda 5 vs Mazdaspeed 3. And to sweeten the pot, the FT86 is more practical than the Mazda 5 with 4 seats and the ability to carry golf clubs, tires, whatever, which makes it somewhat practical to own this as your only vehicle rather than a sporty second car. This car hits a sweet spot for some of us that no other new car provides right now.

I assume you meant MX-5 cause a Mazda5 is far more practical than a GT86..

Hello, nubie to the site. What other cars are the BRZ competition?
Personally the cars I am targeting are..... BRZ (if it handles) BMW 2 Coupe (1 coupe replacement) Miata ND (redesigned Miata) rumors of a redesigned Acura RSX-S ( son owns a 2003) Possibly a 2013 mark 7 VW GTI or redesigned Audi A3 |

I'm still humoring the idea of buying a Mk4 Supra. I've been receiving a few bites for my RX, if someone were to offer the right amount I would sell it and probably buy the Supra outright. Still giving the FRS time to win me over on the showroom floor and test drive.

I've got a long list of cars to check out again when the FR-S is released. Not sure how long I want to wait around either, if it doesn't feel right I'll just hold out for something better.
ND Miata (hopefully) in the works - make it Skyactiv-D and I'd probably pre-order one. Next Mazda Skyactiv rotary - ? don't know how soon this would be arriving, but could easily sway my budget if done correctly. 2014 Mustang - supposedly smaller, lighter, turbo 4, IRS. I dig the current V6PP, but like the FR-S, I decided to wait and see what else was on the horizon. New WRX - current model is what I was going to buy before seeing more info on the FR-S and deciding to wait. Mazdaspeed3 (Skyactiv?) - was my second choice, see above. RAM 1500 Express - totally opposite of FR-S, but this would give me a toy hauler for cheaper motorsports and still be fun. So yeah, $25k is a tough segment for me because I'm weighing all sorts of options. |

Though car will be in the high 2760-2800lb, expect the car to be closing in on 3000lb with a driver and added factory options. First year will not be a fast car by any means, only a fun sounding and feeling car sadly, it is also said that it would be 2 years for a factory turbo model to be considered.

According to every public statement by everyone involved in this project a Turbo is not being considered and there are no plans to ever consider it. 2 years down the road or ten. That's not to say they won't change their mind (I hope they don't, power gets boring in my opinion) but currently there are zero plans for a turbo version from everything that's been said.
