Vin vs. Von
So I ordered my car back in the middle of June. I see all this talk about a vehicle order number which I never got from my dealer. Out of the blue at the end of September I get an email from the salesman saying its on his incoming inventory list and its pre manifest with a VIN. he says the expected port date is oct 26. Now my question is I see a lot of you receiving your cars quite soon after you receive a vin. Not 2 months later like my expected date(3 weeks after port date they say). Is my dealer feeding me a line and the car may show up sooner or is the mid November estimate legit? Can I phone Subaru Canada with a vin and track my car or do they just do it with the Von?

you can call and hear what they say.
i don't know how it works in Canada. Mine ordered on 8/7 and dealer said it will take 10-12 weeks to deliver. yesterday was exactly 10 weeks i waited but not here yet. i am in no rush getting this car and longer i wait there might be less problem with CEL/idel issue |

I wasn't sure about calling because unlike most of the people on here I need received a VON. My salesman didn't even know what it was lol. Judging by what I've read here is that the vin comes after the Von and the vehicle shortly after that, not 2 months later like I'm being told. I just want to know if my dealer is feeding me a line.

VON (Vehicle Order Number) is obtained when you order the vehicle. Subaru is pretty accurate when they give an ETA after a VIN is given. If the 26th is the port arrival date, probably should expect up to 10 days for the dealer to get it. I've seen vehicles arrive up to 2 days early.

To add to the above post, a VIN is not normally issued until the car is built or it has arrived at port. If your dealer is able to provide you with a VIN now, you should expect your car soon. I had a VON 2 days after I ordered my car. Got my VIN once my car was at port and took delivery 5 days later when it arrived at the dealership.
