The only body panel that is aluminum on those in the US is the hood on the 04-07 STI. Even the new STIs have steel hoods.
04-07 STI's and 02-07 WRX's where build with Aluminum hoods.

No USDM Impreza has had aluminum roof or trunk.

I can't speak to Canadian specs. I know for a fact that USDM is magnetic, and the solid assumption is steel.

Penske and Mark Donohue had a car I believe in a Trans Am series and they wanted to reduce the weight of the body. So they dipped it in an acid bath and pulled it out paper thin. They kept everyone away from the car for gear of someone putting their hand through the metal it had gotten so thin in places.

Oh yeah, and they won with that car too.

I bet the noise inside was interesting. Even hard rain is kind of noisy.

It sounds like your car is being pelleted by a machine gun. And it makes you cringe wondering what your panels are going to look like afterwards

Did not know that the WRX ever had an aluminum hood.

Some early docs for the car listed the trunk as being aluminum as well. Canada usually has poor documentation compared to the US, so I would assume it just hasnt been fixed. It is most definitely steel.

That was the 1969-70 boss 302 trans am mustangs. If you opened the door and shook it it wobbled. If you leant on the fenders they would dent.

See, I kinda like the sound. After working with metals and hearing them get hit with various things, I can tell when the metal is going to end up deformed vs. just hit. It makes more of a dull "thunk" when it gets dented. Snare-drum type sound is normal.
