Haven't ever actually calculated it, but it's somewhere around there. I can drive past one of those radar speed limit signs and it'll tell me I'm doing 24mph when I'm supposedly rolling by at over 25mph.

I looked on some S2k forum and someone wrote "3500rpm at 65mph" so I thought that was accurate. I know the AP2 has a longer 6th gear but only by a little since the primary reduction ratio is bigger.

Mileage? AP2 gets worse gas mileage no? Shorter gears + more displacement? What I'm saying is that the AP2 gearing isn't a whole lot better for comfortable cruising, I would get an AP1 if I got an S2000, then I'd probably swap out the 6th gear for the .762 one.
no not gas mileage.
AP1 is superior but they are an older model hence more mileage on the car is what I meant.

Sorry for not being clear.
It sounds like we agree

Unless you buy a 09, but I'm sure those are $$.

I agree with BioRage, I've always wanted the s2k, but since they've stopped production, my choice is limited to a used one.
Tell me who doesn't thrash their s2000 and track their cars? I mean, that's why they've bought one in the first place. If I'm going to buy a s2000 and drive like a granny, i'm better off with a 3Series or C Class if i'm not going to thrash my car.
How many stock s2000s have you seen? Personally, all the s2000 I've seen have been modified and tell me who doesnt rip it when there's curiousity to see what the mods have done.

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it), there are tons of 100% stock that were never driven hard. There are more hardparked s2ks that look like track cars, but never see a track. sad.

This thread will go back and forth forever. Needless to say, the S2000 is the only car on the street that makes me second guess my FRS purchase.

I think this can be said of most performance cars. Despite us being on the forum and talking/reading about tracking our cars, most car owners actually do not track their cars. Even if they are cars that are high performance cars engineered from the manufacturer to be enjoyed both on the street and track.

So yep, I agree. If somebody is looking for a used S2K, I'm sure there are lots and lots of them out there that haven't been modified/tracked.

Despite the mods and hard driving, the cars are STILL running, and are rock solid reliable.

Personally, I have zero issue with buying a used s2k, as long as the maintenance has been done diligently. That's all it needs to be in great mechanical shape.

On the flip side, the majority of s2ks are babied, not driven hard. Problem is, the owners that baby their cars aren't going to be selling... I'd guesstimate that there are maybe 100 s2k owners in California that hit the track at least once a year, but there are probably over 30k s2ks registered in CA.

Lets just hope the BRZ/FRS will be as reliable.

Not in Toronto.

Everyone here beats the fuck out of them.

The ideal choice would be to import one from US.

The s2000 power train is bulletproof. It is a gladiator for reliability and has more than proved itself. Subaru and Totota have a great reputation but the s2000 has already proved itself ten fold. It is a wonderfully reliable block. The FRS BRZ are babies we will see what happens.

I used the GPS speedometer app on my smartphone yesterday. According to it our digital speedometers are 100% accurate up to 70mph (did not go faster than 70).

Will use AIM SOLO on my next trip out.

Not bad.

Enjoy your low rpms man, while I listen to some more 3500rpm + for a while

Just sayin...the s2000 is 200lbs heavier than the FRS...and though it's got 40hp on the FRS (2.0L form) the FRS only has 2 less ft/lbs of torque, and builds it a full 2K rpms before the s2000...if you get an s2K with the 2.2L motor, you'll probably be spending near $20K anyway...for something without a warranty, worse gas mileage, and drastically less storage space. I was looking at an s2000 before getting my FRS, I test drove both + a lotus elise (also can be had used for $25K and way better than an s2K imho) my vote landed me in an FRS, and I couldn't be happier.

200lbs heavier? The weight difference is less than 100lbs.

Edit:

Weights from the 2013 BRZ & 2009 s2000 brochure.

BRZ Premium 2762
BRZ Limited 2776

s2k 2864
s2k CR (w/ hardtop) 2855
s2k CR Delete (w/ hardtop) 2813
s2k CR Delete (w/o hardtop) 2765

Actual weights will vary. I don't know where you're getting your 200lbs from. I'm not knocking the BRZ/FR-S, I want to get one.
