Recaro seats?

Here in Australia recaro seats are offered in the current Renault Megane RS, Renault Clio, Golf R and previous generations of the integra type R. I'd expect the FT86 to be competing in the same market segment so it would be a good option to have for the car.

Heres a picture of the awesome recaro seats found in the current megane.

optional seats like those never make it to the states because we require side airbags. the megane seats above has them. but the recaros on the Golf R do not and so we wont get them here in the states.

Seats are easy enough to replace that I'm not too worried about it. But they would have to be pretty horrible seats to make me want to swap them out before they wear out.

But stating that racing/bucket seats is cheaper when its an option... I find that.. quite skeptical. Normally when seeing options for cars the prices are really jacked up.

Some OEM seats are Recaro even if they're not branded as such. That said, I don't think brand matters if it's OEM. Regardless of where it's coming from, OEM seats are typically held to a much higher safety standard than aftermarket. Watching ballin' JDM Bride seats fail a rear impact 80 km test shows just that.

In short, I don't care what the OEM brand is, so long as it offers plenty of lateral support, is light, and isn't made for big fat Americans =P

If it does come with Recaros, all I ask is for SP-Xs, haha. Such purty seats. May be a tad overbudget though.



Not all Brides are wide too. The Brides in the stock R32 GT-R are perfect for smaller Japanese peeps like myself =D

I trust SUbaru will put good seats in it. I had WRX STI seats in my 94 Wrx (Right-hand-drive) and they were terrific.

A race base, at least in Honda terms, would be a car with no interior really, a lot of the upgrade parts removed (as they'd be replaced anyways in a race car), etc.

Depends on your needs. No OEM seat would be ideal with a rollbar for example, and no non-fixed back seats should ever be used with harnesses and no rollbar.. so basically all you get is a more snug fitting seat that still uses 3 point belts.. and it will still be large enough for big drivers. Not to mention lots of people swap seats in street cars just to do so.

Also, there are very few nice reclinable seats with airbags and crap. OEM seats are perfectly fine quality wise, hell my OEM seats are in better shape than the Sparco and Recaro race buckets I've used!

Not really. And just because Recaro makes the seat (or doesn't) doesn't mean it's going to be anything like a race bucket.

Every brand has different levels of seats (quality, material, weight, fit, etc).

I've sat in some nice OEM Recaro's though, and some I hated. :shrug:

I don't know how they compare. But I do know that RX-8 seats rate above average.

And it is cheaper for an OEM to offer a decent seat from the factory instead of needing to buy one for a brand new car from the aftermarket and probably getting a lower grade seat. Seats are one of those things that you don't want to cheap out on. They need to be sturdy in a crash and cheap aftermarket seats won't work.

I think if you're a Giant meatbag (as opposed to a small one) you probably need to buy a different seat that is more comfortable for you anyway . The best us giant folk can hope is for two sizes, instead of seats with more range of adjustability which would therefore be heavier and more expensive.
