Thanks much guys!
I'd totally be willing to loose an inch in width if it meant dropping say .5-1.5lb in weight. Though I can't go much skinnier than 8" width. 7-7.5" just leaves for such a limited tire width selection. |

So what's the recommended and/or widest tire for an 8" wide wheel?
I'm guessing a 235/45-17 or 245-40/17?

17x8, 235/45 is a popular choice. I believe 235 is the widest recommended for 8"

I would say the 5zigen FN01R but I don't think they're made anymore and I also don't know if they're in 5x100

RPF1's are stronger than Kosei. I have heard more about damaged Kosei's in the Miata world. I think the RPF1's are worth the extra $20-30/ wheel compared to Kosei.

IIRC, the RPF1's are stronger than Kosei's as BAE said, however keep in mind the strength of these wheels will not be as with stock or stronger forged wheels. They're still a cast wheel, although not a conventional cast, and thus would still be prone to cracking if severely stressed.

Has anyone had success mounting 235s on a 7" wheel?
I'm considering doing this with the stockers to hold me off for this season. It's not my optimal choice for the long term but would love to hear some success stories if you guys have got any. Thanks! |

Widest I'd put on a 7" wheel is 225, I dunno man.
