Right on the money. I'd make the exception with a trunk and 2700lb will be my max.

That sounds similar to what I'm expecting, except you are expecting too much torque from a N/A 2.0L. Maybe more of a zone for weight; 2400-2600lbs. It shouldn't weigh that much more than the overweight, convertible Miata .

I try to be cautiously optimistic considering the US emissions and safety regulations being what they are these days.

Lift back is what I meant. Original 86 (optional), all Celica & Supra models had lift backs... Hopefully the trend continues.

I actually did that one time when my friend wanted me to test a NB, it was the most uncomfortable test drive ever... I'm not extremely tall, but I have long legs and I could never stretch my legs in that car the whole time... I don't know how people > 6' fit in that thing, I'm only 5'11" and it was a pain to drive... I found those cars a bit to slow on the straights even though you can hit mach 10 around corners...

As for the FR-S I gave it more thought...

The price must be > 19K to put it pass the tC for Toyota, and under WRX for Subaru for it to make sense... The tC is also a 2+2 coupe with FWD, so this would be a second car with similar characteristics to compete with itself... The only scary thing so far is that the new iQ car is the SAME price as a xD which gives you so much more... THAT makes no sense... However, if it is priced stupid like this again, a 19K FR-S would NOT be a bad thing LOL...

The car is probably going to aim for high rev low torque engine with ~180-190 hp to match the car it is trying to reinvent... Not only that, but we KNOW Toyota can produce a NA 2.0 or less (1.8L 2ZZ-GE) up to 180+hp, so if they wanted that to be the target, they could of just reproduced the motor to drop into this thing... So the target hp MUST be around here or else it would make little to no sense to drop in a boxer for lower power out put purely for lowering the center of gravity... On the flip side though, they might have made this choice just to keep the mounts of the boxer the same so a swap to a STi engine or the likes can be done easier... This would scare me if it was the main reason (outside of lowering center of gravity) to partner up with Subaru...

The weight IMO is going to be the most satisfying because they wouldn't dare associate this car with the Hachiroku if they didn't plan to have it light... Since the original car was ~2100lbs(?) I can't see them add too much more weight and still give it a 86 badge... If they do, I can only see the power go up...

With all said and done, price is the bottom line factor... If they hit 25K I would probably say this car would fail... That is in a realm where now they have vehicles like the Mazdaspeed 3, the WRX, MX-5, V6 Mustang, and Genesis Coupe, etc... I know this is a different breed of car, and all of us here would still pick this car over the aforementioned, but today's car market does not see this to be the first choice for a LOT of people... So 25K would be risky nonetheless and would be the ultimate factor for me... Every car ever made priced correctly can be a success...

There are far too many points here that I disagree with you.

My only 3 points are; It's going to be small, so it should be both lightweight and affordable. Balanced, it's going to be RWD with a compact engine. And my final point is that this is a Toyota AND a Subaru so it could go both ways.

LOL, it is just so funny. After all discussions and speculations we are still left without concrete info.

I hope the 200 PS is at 7.000 RPM. In this way at 8.000 RPM you'll have 220 PS and redline at 8.500 RPM. LOL. You can't compare this engine with the STI engine. That one is turbo, and most turbo engine ahve redline at 7.000 RPM with some exceptions from Japan, and the new BMW M5 (F10) that has redline at 7.200 RPM and the McLaren MP4-12C that redlines at 8.500 RPM. Here we are talking about a 25.000 € car, redline at 7.500 RPM is 100 % sure. Any higher would be nice, but I doubt it. No way it redlines at 7.000 RPM, that is wat my 4 banger Alfa 147 does.

Why didn't you post in the Europe forum? I made a thread for the french ones. Looks like there will be very, very few FT-86/BRZ in France. Better for us so, it will be more rare. Hope we'll meet in Strasburg, I am to return there end of october.

And my take. (and sort of wishful thinking)

190hp @ 6500 rpms
160 lb-ft @ 6500 rpms
2650 lbs
Brakes: Disc all around.
Transmission: 6 Speed Manual
Differential: LSD Standard
Price: USD $24k (Base trim)

Track Spec (Stripped), nothing at all, not even a radio, no LSD, no power anything. Just a car, wheels and tires $19K USD. Problem with a stripped track model is the Stealership can't load it up with options. Scion's normally come pretty well equipped for the money you spend)

My roommate works at Tesla, says that he thinks the new Concept 2 officially shown at Frankfurt is the ugliest of them all. Honestly, after the video of it moving around (looks like 99 percent C.G.) I really like it. Still not a fan of the LED's on the front, but otherwise I think it looks nice. If it can just be affordable, I will buy it, even if it looks like the MKII. But I think the MKIII was the best looking of all of them.

Then why not buy a Genesis Coupe? Or a WRX? Or a MS3? Or a Miata and a readily available Flying miata 230whp cosworth-designed supercharger kit?

There are so many decent options out there that buying a brand new FT86 just to swap the engine and then having to replace every part of the drivetrain to withstand the new power doesn´t sound logical.

265hp would have meant more weight (turbocharged or bigger displacement engine, stronger gearbox, bigger brakes), more complexity, and of course higher costs.
