Obviously - to me at least - it was one of those concepts that got strangled by corporate bureaucracy.
I personally have little expectation out of this thread anymore. No deadlines + no progress reported = no expectations (unfortunately) |

Well, if you go back to the OP and read it, it's a 'feeling out' more or less to see what interest there might be for an armrest. After 18 pages of ideas, comments and people saying 'take my money dammit' there is still no update from Scion on it. Now other people are building ones that are very similar to the concept one and I'd say that they have lost their jump on the competition. So if they ever do build it, they probably won't sell as many.
Kind of like the second ice water salesman in hell, you had the original idea, but someone else beat you to it....... Last edited by White64Goat; 01-03-2013 at 11:11 PM. |

I want this or one that looks like it... and work is slowing down... so I may build one myself. If it looks good, I'd build and sell for dirt cheap cause I'm not trying to make that much of a profit, its crazy how people see money being thrown at them, and they dont take it... if they charged $100 per... hell there are at least 30 people that want it... you do the math but thats $3000 to me. Seems like there is profit to be made from somebody who built a removable if need be console/armrest like this. |

Yea I saw his thread... and its not bad either. I am going to model mine similar to his. I got a trick up my sleeve with some lighting though... I already know how I want it to look, now just to figure out how to make it 1) Removable 2) No permanent modification to the center console that is already there. No one wants to hack up the factory parts. I'm thinking of small magnet inserts on the bottom side of plastic to hold a retaining ring in the shape of the opening. Then lid will attach to that ring. And with just a little force of pulling the magnets inside the ring that mate to the opposite magnet under the existing console, you could pull it apart easily if you wanted it out of the way, but would otherwise stay in place. I don't know yet, haven't dedicated anything just yet.

Not very passenger friendly. So magnets. Or it can be hinged at the rear to open up

Yep - a rear hinge is still the way to go. A piano hinge across the back will be plenty strong and it's not like anyone will ever sit in the back seats.

I need one that goes up to the spot where the seat heater switches go, I find that my arm rests more on the e-brake than where the armrest would go, I'm 5'7".

This armrest Is definitely the best looking one I've seen (IMO) it's ridiculous that its not available for purchase yet. What's the hold up? I'm pretty sure these would sell.

Mods should just close this thread. Everytime I see it on the New Post list, I trick myself into thinking there's new development. Let the OP create a new thread when the product is available. It's already going on 19 pages and chime ins from other vendors that make armrests.
