The owner of this brand new Subaru BRZ brought the car to us at Unique Car Care for a proper new car prep, full frontal clear bra install, window tint and Wolf’s Hard Body sealant to get the car off on the right track…

Before the install, we gave the exterior a proper prep to make sure the paint was as perfect as possible. This included a hand wash, claybar treatment (removes bonded contaminants), then polished the entire exterior to ensure there weren’t any scratches or blemishes present before the clear bra and Wolf’s sealant . After the paint was free of all contaminants and defects, we gave the paint surface a wipe down using a prep solvent to remove any oils, waxes or sealants that could possibly interfere with the film adhering to the paint surface properly.

Before the clear bra install, my window tint installer applied 45% window tint to all windows, which meets Massachusetts state tint laws. Law enforcement has really been cracking down on dark window tint lately and it is considered a moving violation, so the customer wanted to make sure the windows were 100% legal. It totally complimented the car and will help keep the car cool during the summer months.

As far as clear bra coverage, the customer wanted the full front bumper, complete hood, complete fenders, side mirrors and headlights wrapped.

Once the exterior was completely polished and defect-free, we started laying down the film on the drivers side fender…

We perform a fully custom install instead of using pre-cut kits. Pre-cut kits typically have lots of critical areas that don't get covered and are prone to stone damage, not to mention lots of unnecessary seams. By performing a fully custom install, we use bulk film and are able to have all seams very close to any openings (park distance sensors, reflectors, headlights, foglights, etc.) for a cleaner install with added coverage. In addition, all edges are completely wrapped over (hood, fenders, etc.) as seen below.

This picture show the edges trimmed long so they can be wrapped over…

Not only is it important to cover all high-impact areas of the paint, it is also important to cover the headlights. Headlights typically pick up lots of stone chips and can result in reduced visibility while driving at night.

Because the owner wanted maximum coverage, he opted to have the entire hood and fenders covered in film, versus partial coverage. The owner plans on keeping the car for quite a while and wanted to ensure he wouldn’t accumulate any stone chips whatsoever on the highest impact areas. We have been offering full hood and fender coverage for a while now, and people have really been impressed by it.

Applying film to the passenger side fender…

Joe and Rick applying film to the hood…

All edges on the hood were trimmed long in order to wrap the film over for a seamless install…

Lastly, it was time to wrap the front bumper. This is by far the highest impact area of the car, so we wrapped all edges and trimmed all openings as close as possible to ensure maximum coverage and provide the cleanest install possible.

We used Xpel Ultimate film for this install, which has great clarity, no orange peel and has a clearcoat topcoat. The best thing about the film is that is has self-healing properties if you happen to scratch it at some point. Any type of heat (sunlight, engine heat, hot water, etc. will promote the self healing and the scratches will disappear. It also has great UV protection and will not discolor, fade or get cloudy like other films on the market. Most films look great when first installed, but typically degrade not even a year later. This film is backed with a 10 year warranty.

Here are the final results!

Thanks for looking!
how much will this cost?

I paid $1500 for the bra (Xpel Ultimate) $350 for the hard body, and $250 for the tint.

Dude, really? Could you please not quote the entire friggin' post? We don't need to scroll through that whole thing twice.

I had no idea Sony's car had that clear bra installed when I saw it! Which is definitely a good thing! I think I know where I'm bringing my BRZ once I get it!

Also Unique's tint guy is really good, he got the tint in behind my tail lamp without even removing it. He didn't cut around it and he didn't have to pop it out

When was the last time you contacted him? He is a lot easier to contact now as he just went into the Full-Time detailing business a couple months ago. Before he was also working at BU as an IT Guy and was only doing the Detailing thing Part Time.

Awesome work guys! I wish we had folks like you in the Northwest. Shops around here will only offer the pre-cut kit, and I have been unhappy with my x-pel ultimate shield for the reasons you've mentioned (gaps in areas, creasing due to the pre-cut mask begin stretched to cover the areas it needs to, etc)

The end-result looks superb.
