Results are the AMP event is posted http://www.azsolo.com/events-info/results

Short version

Novice 1: Mattles 2nd, Jeffsides 3rd , the Sleeper 4th out of 7

Novice 3: Jasper 4th out of 6, but keep in mind he was driving cooked street tires

SK1 (stock street tire) Ningin 3rd out of 8 SK1 is a tough local class, I was in it for years.

Ta-da Instructor class - Me 1st (overall 6 out of 89). Sorry, it is hard not to be braggy when I put the hurt on some seriously good drivers. I have a feeling that the twins are going to completely dominate STX.
I looked at them close today I have zero tread left on the inside after I snapped that suspension part. should have stopped when I first heard the noise but oh well they are getting replaced anyway. I'm Just happy I met my personal goal for the time I wanted to beat I knew in stx on street tires I wasn't going to be very competitive.

Not really sure how to read these things. Why do things get shaky at 5k rpm?

Registration closes at 7:00 pm Friday. Registration link http://www.azsolo.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12543

And here is a link to a AZSolo walkthrough video, and it is close enough to Tucson procedure.

If you have never done autox, well, it is the best car in the world for the sport.

While I am not an instructor at the Marana events, I can hook you up with instructors.

If you want to attend, but have questions, ask away. There are already a few az autoxers.
I'm happy with my results for it being my first autoX!

Dang, I got 2nd in Novice1 class?! That is awesome. Looks like only a corvette beat me, I feel really damn good about that.

Thanks to the support of the other FRS drivers out there, and especially Kevin for helping me realize where I needed to improve my timing and awareness. It's definitely about being smooth out there, I can't wait for the next event.

2. Are there always enough loner helmets or should I just buy my own?

3. If I end up liking this, how reasonable is it to have an STX prepared car as your daily driver?

Thanks!

1) You won't look like a fool, and besides, if you are new, you will be in novice class and only assholes laugh at novices. On the other hand, laughing at experienced drivers is fun.

2) We have plenty of loaner helmets and the are still very newish. I wore one at AMP for a few because I didn't feel like running for my helmut (East Valley - the Helmet Hut has a great selection).

3) my STX Toybaru is my daily driver. It is a firm ride, but not uncomfortable. It kinda depends how hard core STX. For example, I am nuts enough to go along with my co driver's urgings to install race seats (we are on a weight loss program - and please no cracks about my personal lack of a weight loss program). No race seat yet, but they are on the list with a lighter battery.

4) Look me up at Firebird, I have a red FR-S with white stickers. I will probably lead to novice walk in the morning. If I can instruct because I am already helping somebody, I will find you another instructor.

Our cars are the new miata mx-5, which is high praise. I think the car is going to dominate STX, which means STX will become super competitive, just like STR with the Miatas. Hell yeah.

Looks like they opted for no smoothing of the graph, so you are seeing the most accurate to-the-instant power readings at each graph point. Most dyno graphs tend to look smooth and pretty due to averaging of the values to smooth the line/curve.
However I cant really explain why the left half seems more smooth, power must be more consistent in the lower revs. That or it can be attributed to noise in the tach signal or other enviro variables during the dyno run.

I'm thrilled about my result too, I was expecting to be no higher than 5th.

Kevin was really tearing it up Sunday, that instructor class is serious business, and his car's not even fully prepped yet, a good exhaust and tune would probably add a good bit on a course like AMP or Marana.

In TO runs, they came in the same exact order, one after another.

Yeah I didn't smooth the data, apparently it's common even the guy at the dyno shop said it was normal. I can smooth the data if you want a better look at it

You did just fine. It was the first time out with your suspension kinda adjusted and your tires really suck (nothing personal - the stock tires suck for autox - drifting around sure, but traction - no way).

Btw, when the guy set your suspension, did he set street camber and toe?

Better yet, can he give you two settings - one with maximum camber and an 1/8" toe, and the other with street camber and street toe? If you mark the toe rod (I don't know the name of the rod) and bolt on one side (the steering wheel won't be straight, but so what), and you mark street camber on your camber plates, you can easily change from street set up to course set up like I do. You've seen me do it, it doesn't take long.

Yeah I have marks on the top and he said they are accurate that tie rod (I don't know the name either) is what I broke cost almost $100 to overnight a new one. So toe hasn't been messed with just camber at this point.
