Ok, so when I was 19, I kept copius notes while racing the different cars I owned or drove. I found my old "Toe Notes" and it answered some of my set up thoughts differently, and is going to be used when I align my car tonight. Thought I'd share in case anyone else was interested.

Fine tuning toe settings will allow a measure of control that I'm often overlooking. It also has a significant effect on how a car behaves in a corner.

Front toe: settings make a big difference in how a car handles in the first third of the turn, the critical turn in phase where cornering force is initiated.

Rear toe: settings can be critical for helping a RWD car get on the gas on the exit of a corner harder and sooner.

The cool thing is that toe settings are probably one of the easiest alignment settings to do and all cars are toe adjustable with the exception of rear toe in cars with beam and solid rear axles like project porsche. This makes it so I can experiment with different toe settings and get a feel for how they affect chassis balance.
__________________________
TOE SETUP - FRONT TOE OUT
-----------------------------
On a really high powered FWD car too much toe out can cause a lot of torque steer. Front toe out is a useful tool that can really help a car when used in moderation. Many cars and situations can be helped with a little toe out. Generaly front toe out speeds steering response and reduces understeer in the first quarter to third of a turn.

AWD cars like the EVO and Subie almost always benefit from front toe out as well. Nose heavy AWD cars with transverse engines derived from FWD cars can particularly benefit. (Like the evo)

*** TOO MUCH ***
Car twitchy under breaking
Unstable in straights
Car refusing to turn + 1/4"
Super Pushy & crown sensitive on road tracks

*** Just Right ***
EG2 and Subie have less push @ + 1/32" - + 1/8", Less is more.
Super responsive at + 1/16"

--------------------------
FRONT TOE in
--------------------------
MK1 & other mid-mounts seem to need Toe in. Spin happy at toe out.
Too much makes car sluggish & slow to turn & wanders under braking -- no " noticed
Just right feels like a street car in stability.

Tested on F/R porsche, and Toe in (Low ") is super helpful in creating balanced push/pull in turn.

------------------
REAR TOE OUT
------------------
Rear toe out has limited use. One of the times it sometimes works is on a FWD car being used for stock class in autocross. It can help the car rotate in tight low speed turns where it would normally get grinding understeer and you are not allowed to do anything else in the way of mods to fix the issue. Sometimes it can work surprisingly well.

*** It can make the car tricky as fuck to drive at high speeds so caution must be used. ***

Rear toe out is not a very useful setting, for me. It hurts in all testing except for helping rotation on a FWD car when you are completely out of tuning options or running Low bucks rally in dirt. We have only used this successfully for Stock Class Autocross and Rally in the EG2 & tC.

- Cars became super tail happy and were prone to violent rotations.

-------------------
REAR TOE IN
-------------------
Rear toe in is a useful setting that can make the car more stable under power application while turning. We can also be used to reduce trailing throttle oversteer or snap oversteer. Don't overdo it, too much rear toe can cause initial understeer and snap oversteer, making it super dangerous and unreliable in the dirt.
*+*+ LESS IS MORE +*+*

Could be used if I take up drifting.

The car went away today. They tell me it could take as long as 25 days for it to reach Honolulu, but could be less. So begins my month without a decent car Upside: the paperwork was surprisingly easy and it took about an hour of them inspecting the car and typing up crap before doing a walk around with them and then signing for the car and my box of stuff (floor mats, jumper cables, other spare stuff stored in trunk). Sad to see it go, but the next time I'll see it, we'll be in Hawaii!

Springs, ties, & sway. As much as I like it, I think theres a better setup to match front/rear leaving the apex. I like the toe write-up.
