This thread is almost identical to a thread on the Genesis Coupe forums regarding bad syncros and poor cold shifting. Similar Aisin tranny similar issues, similar remedies, Pentosin, Redline MTL , Redline D4ATF. Pentosin was chosen as the factory fix for the tranny problems, but some dealers installed other oils noted above and even their own brand ATF. Also a lot of trannys swapped out by dealers.
I just read the whole thread here and wonder why you guys don't get the dealers or factory to come up with a fix even if it is as simple as having a dealer flush and fill the tranny with a better oil? My 2010 Genesis Coupe acts similar to my wife's BRZ. Difficult cold shifts, mainly second gear. My Gen has improved a bit as its had more miles on it in the last 4 years. I kept the factory fill as I have not driven it in the winter. I expect the same from our BRZ, but my wife is going to drive the BRZ all year so I am wondering what to do about the bad 1-2 shift when cold. I mentioned the problem to my service department a week ago, car is 3 weeks old with 1500 km on it now. I think I will go back and start a paper trail on this issue just to be safe. Have not had any driving below 40f so not sure how bad it will be at 0f - 20f (common Toronto winter temps) Last edited by brad fischer; 10-20-2013 at 08:30 PM. Reason: typo |

Is there any downside to running a slightly thinner GL4 vs the factory fill 75w90? I have access to BG products at work and the BG syncroshift 2 is 75w80. And does anyone have experience running BG syncroshift in the toyobaru?
Just found this tech doc on the Synchroshift 2. http://kansasbg.com/Complete_Set_of_...h/792_SPEC.pdf Last edited by Ozzman; 10-28-2013 at 11:53 PM. |

I just shift 1-3 when it's cold and that solves the problem for me.

I just finished changing out my Trans fluid to MTF2, initial impressions are very good. Definitely smoother shifting in all gears and my second gear 'notch' is gone. Very pleased with this. I'll do an up date later after a I try a cold down shift into second gear.
side note I've tried Redline in my other cars and wasn't really impressed

It will continue to get better over the next few hundred KMs or so. I have enough MTF2 here for another fluid change and plan to do it soon. I'm just waiting on some back ordered 75W85 gear oil for the rear end so I can do them both at the same time. I'm looking forward to getting some Pentosin back in the trans. The Redline I've been using is better than stock, but not as good as the MTF2.

I haven't been on this subforum much but is this still a well regarded fluid for trans?
I have it in my car now, just wanted to know if anyone found out anything negative before I buy 5 liters of it.

Why are you buying 5 liters of it? I thought the transmission only takes 3L.

Sold on the mtf2. Gonna change it out after I pick up a low profile jack.
The question is who has the best price for the mtf2 + motul300 for the diff? |

Pentosin = Autohauz in Arizona. The Motul well you can get that locally in Van somewhere I'm sure. Google foo may find you both in your own city.

I dunno man would need to google it. Both are not that uncommon. I bought Motul near local in Edmonton. The MTF2 I bought online from Autohauz and had mailed.
