Put your brother in a muscle car, on a track; and have him watch all those Miatas flying by

Has a history of muscle cars. Currently drives a FPV (Ford V6 Turbo in Oz). Also building a 67 Eleanor (same as Gone in 60 Seconds). Admittedly, a serious car.
Straight 6..... Not V6......

He is driving a turbo charged family sedan with IRS that weighs 1800 kg....

The fact that he's talking smack about the car BEFORE he drives it proves he's not really a car guy. Just because he owns those vehicles doesn't mean he's a car guy. Simply a fan boy of certain vehicles.

I'm admittedly a Toyota fanboy myself (owned a Supra, Solara, 4Runner, too many Camrys, Scion xD). I know Toyota inside and out but have absolutely NO credibility in relation to muscle cars or, shoot, even Honda product. I at least don't 'hate' on things. I still like to learn about the other stuff-- I just won't invest my own free time to do so =P

The "real" car guys have an appreciation for everything out there.

I should have just stopped reading after the first part of the second sentence: "he hasn't driven it."

We got an FR-S in the office this past week, but apparently Toyota forgot to include the letter of "free FR-S" pending a glowing review.

Car journos get bribed by being flown out to locations, with paid hotel and meals. You get a nifty USB drive branded with the company for assets, that's typically as far as it goes. Your brother doesn't sound like the most informed individual.

Horsepower doesn't dictate sports car. Lotus Elise makes 170hp and is as pure of a sports car as you can get. Lemme guess, he hasn't driven that either?

People have simply forgotten...or never learned what a sports car is. By and large, people are so used to the ever bloated cars tat come out every year, with more and MOAR horsepower.

Take 'em on a time warp to the late 60's...and throw them into a Porsche 356, 911, Lotus Elan, or any other of the plethora of small, lightweight cars from that era,...they'd quickly learn. A car where you just push on the gas pedal as far as it will go in a straight line doesn't make it a sports car.

If Colin Capman were still alive, he'd give the people who think a sports car means a car with lots of power a good verbal thrashing.

I've owned a number of fast cars. But the most fun I had was in my NB miata. Well, until I picked up the BRZ.

If 200HP is lower than the absolute threshold needed for the car to be labeled a sports car, well.... the label doesn't really matter. Who cares if it's a "sports" car or not. We like the FR-S/BRZ, and we know it will become increasingly popular.

Same with cars like AE86 and older Miatas. They were very popular, and even heavily tuned ones often had less than 200hp.

He replies "Of course! I'd be concerned if you couldn't handle a car that slow!"

I then mention how every car journalist has rates the car.

His argument is that Toyota paid off every car journalist... either with money or by giving them an actual 86.

I said "that's ridiculous".

He said "well it does explain why you can't even buy one - cos they gave them all away!"

He's good for a laugh, thought I'd share this.

fixed that for ya, your bro is an arse....

FPVs aren't V6s, they are straight 6s
