I bought mine and same day drove 1,200 miles from Seattle to LA. No problems. I'm now at 1,900 miles and still no problems.

Oh yeah, best car I've ever owned, by far. Even if I get the CEL issue I'll still love this car. It's that much fun to drive and own.

Love hearing that

If you don't mind my asking, what other cars have you owned?

Dealer finally got back to me. They are buying me a gift certificate for my detailer, they also gave me a number for customer dealer services to complain for compensation/warranty. I am waiting to see how the car behaves before I call it. So far 've done about 200 miles with one idle dip. No mechanical parts, just a reflash.

Well, I Guess I'll Leave My Deposit Where It Is Then. The Dealer Says It's Supposed To Be Here November 22Nd and That It Hasn't Even Been Built Yet, So It Comes With The Good Parts. I'm Really Excited, It Seems I Managed To Get One If The Few Whiteouts That Are Being Shipped Anytime Soon.

So just a skid light flashing when the idle dipped won't drop a code?

I bought two now, despite having the problem with the first one. Now I have a silver FR-S and Blue Limited BRZ. FR-S may get lemon'd if Claytone doesn't offer me something big. If he does, I'll keep both. I have a kid in college who would love to have a 2 year old FR-S when he graduates.

Really? It's hard to imagine that any new sport car buyer-enthusiast would consider that to be a "bright side."

How about this: The dim side is that Toyota blew it on a) the head design of this engine and b) the handling of this warranty-recall (it may yet turn into a full-on recall). The bright side is that, once this gets sorted out, say in MY 2014, the car will be what we all want it to be: a marvelous, affordable sports car.

Maybe you have a negative outlook? My outlook is more positive.
Small production run (anything) tend to have more problems.

I complained plenty about this car being in the shop.

I think you may be overreaching about point A above. I agree on B, dealers should have been trained, and cars should have not been torn apart, just throwing parts at the problem.

I wouldn't bet on the car being all better in 2014. Car may not exist. car may be heavier. We don't know how they will change it. They may remove the ability to completely turn off traction control. Point is, we just don't know what will get better and what will get worse.

EDIT: Bottom Line: Not many car choices in this size/price/power/sportiness. If this is the car you want, you either look at the bright side or you wait.

Well, most serious codes turn on the CEL. I use a scan tool to check for codes. Some auto parts places do it for free. If you don't see a code, the dealer will say: "What problem? Show Me."

This is the concern I have as well. Odds are they will change something, for better or worse only time will tell. My biggest fears were that they would a) increase the price of the car substantially(they always go up never down) b) They would alter the size, weight, and overall balance the car is touted to have and c) they would Nerf the cars abilities and take stuff away like TC completely off and LSD.

I'm sure I'll be disappointed if they add things that improve the car but what can you do...

I always turn all the aids off but to me it feels like something is pulsing on the front wheels in wet drifts. I hope its not like the s2000 changes, I always preferred the first one.

So what's normal idle behaviour for a boxer engine? I've had my ECU swapped under warranty for the CEL and the dealership specifically said the new ECU was not for fixing the 'idle dip'. They say it's normal. Almost every stop I made today, the idle dipped to 400 and stayed there for as long as 2 seconds sometimes, with the engine idle NOT sounding and feeling good when it does that. Today it was especially bad and the worst it's been since getting it back last tuesday. I've been dealing with idle issues for 4 months now, ever since I bought the car and I'm so tired of it. I could wait for the next CEL and tell the dealership 'I told you so', but I've run out of patience for that.

Proud member of the FR-S/BRZ beta test team!
