^^^ Same here from BC and to insure my 1988 mk3 supra cost me 185 a month w/o collision....a sti would cost me 267 a month. So hopefully the Fr-s wont be to high but it would likely be in the $200+ range per month to insure..

I live in British Columbia, Canada like a couple other members on here. You would be safe to assume that gasoline prices are on par with how insane the insurance is (though not as bad as Europe)...
That is crazy. I feel bad for you guys. At least you will be older now, so hopefully that will help you out on the rates.

usually sedan is cheaper to insure than coupe... I understand Cobalt is fast and can be counted as sports car... but still I would expect FF is cheaper to insure than AWD

For what it's worth my 92 AWD Talon costs the same to insure as my 91 FWD. Since 2002 when they were only ~12 years old.

Aww crap. lol well, my fallback is a miata, and keep in mind I live in South Florida (idk what that could differentiate from other states) and I just read someone say that its a proven fun platform that doesn't break the bank, and by the time I'm 18, the FRS should be used and cheaper, so only time will tell!

GVRD insurance is screwed up. I pay less than $100/mo for my '95 Legacy with Comprehensive but no Collision (40% discount). Not bad.

When my mom moved here from up north she traded in a DX Civic coupe for a new Si Civic sedan and was paying $30/mo less for the newer, higher trim 4 door car.

And to non-BCers: one nice thing here is only driver experience/history and location modify your insurance, not age, gender or marital status. So a 26 year old single male with 10 years experience and no accidents gets pretty much the max discount, same as a 40 year old married woman with no accidents.

That's interesting about the DX to Si. Usually they're all nuts about the insurance on the 2-door Si. My late boss looked at a Si Coupe when purchasing a new car a couple years ago (ended up with a Altima 2.5S CVT if you must know), looked up the insurance rate and literally said "**** that!!!" hahaha.

I think I'll just try to ride out the next 5 years (crosses fingers). I have had some close calls, and work will keep me out of the drivers seat for a portion of the year.

It was a few years ago not current, whatever gen was after the EK, when they went to the front struts instead of wishbones. 2 door DX was more expensive than a newer 4 door Si.

Insurance everywhere is a messed up system. Right now we pay a little over 400/yr for the wife's 07 Camry, which to me seems ridiculously low - but I won't complain. When I had my 07 GTI (4dr) I was paying around 90/mo. And that was only about 5/mo more than what I paid for my 03 Protege5. At the time, it would've been cheaper for me to insure a C5 Vette over the Protege, so go figure.

Comprehensive covers things like a car fire, car theft, and in NY, hitting an animal (things that are not under your control). Collision covers your vehicle if you hit another car and it is your fault (the other vehicle is covered under your liability, which is mandatory in almost all states.) Collision insurance can be very expensive because it means that you're covered if you hit into someone or into something, like a wall.

Oh I cant wait to hear the endless complaints of this cars insurance rate.

Surprise, surprise, a brand new (affordable) sports car is going to have insurance rates that will make all those people who are worried about gas mileage and maintenance prices cry.

Is that a lot? lol. When I bought my RX-7 around a decade ago I was living in New Jersey and I was paying over $490 a month or $5900 a year for coverage. It was the third vehicle on my insurance policy, I had no points on my license, and no accidents on my record. When I moved to Florida, the same coverage for the same vehicle, with the same company dropped to $120 a month/$1450 a year. Go Go New Jersey!

As far as insuring my Talons, they were both north of $200 a month/$2400 a year each to insure. In Florida, they were/are both $70 a month/$840 a year.

That's over $10,000 for insurance for the year before I moved down to Florida that is now just over $3000.

When the FR-S is released, depending on what I end up buying, I'm going to downgrade some of my insurance coverage. On my AWD Talon I'm just going to have dragracersinsurance.com which is pretty cheap ($675 on the FWD Talon). Probably just going to have liability on the RX. And I may sell the Tundra or trade it in on the FR-S/GC.
