lmao thanks... gotta admit, that v6 Mustang with the performance pack is a sweet deal, but I don't think the feel is going to compare to this car at all.

can't beat the 300+ hp and 30 mpg though... mustangs are good bang for buck.

but they're two different cars. I personally am waiting on this and the new gen coupe (closer cars)... and possibly a GT500 for my dad (I have a really good deal on one).

I'm a little weary of the info JUST because it's only one dude so far... NO ONE else was there and cares to speak? That sucks.

I'm reading on the Club4AG forum link all the time... and Moto keeps calling it the FRS... does that mean the name is finalized too? I know it's a Scion but just want to know if they killed the FT86 name.

I know nothing about Subbie engines except for the obvious boxer configuration and how it sounds on most WRXs and STis... what is (speculated) to be difference in this motor? And what is the closest we've seen to it? I just want to know a little of what I am waiting for. If the gen coupe is 4 cylinder and turbo AND only gets 200 some odd horsepower, does that mean this is looking to be around 200 also (or more or less?)?

Too light and I may install a supposed plug-and-play rollcage. Or is that overkill?
I may be right there with ya if what Moto said is true.

Agree with the bike thing... almost had a soccer mom in a Sequoia take me out one day.

Not sure about the name.. it might just be habit on his part, but tbh the FR or FR-S fits the Scion naming convention more than FT-86.

btw are you the same Godzilla that runs my350z.com?

Weren't we already expecting a light weight, RWD car with a new boxer engine tuned by Yamaha with Toyota's D4S DI strapped on? As exciting as words/phrases like "inspired", "hero car", "second renaissance", and "roll cage" are they're just words. I'm holding off the excitement until I see some actual numbers.

Yep.
Did you catch the part about easily swapping in other Subaru engines?

For those of you that are not keen on the proposed 'torqueless' motor, the implication is that you can stuff anything that fits the EJ mounts into this car.

For the turbo lovers, there are EJ205 to EJ257's
For the high RPM turbo lovers there are the JDM EJ20G,K and their new STI one.
For inexpensive, low-end NA torque lovers there are EJ25's (but only 170ish hp depending on year.)
For smooth engines with even more low-end NA torque there is the 3.3L H6 EG33, which fits EJ mounts.

Buy, swap, enjoy.

Yeah, I caught that... but I'll wait and see how "easy" it is to swap in an STI motor. After all the custom fabrication related headaches I went through swapping out the 13b for a 20b in my RX I'm a bit hesitant.

I'm just tired of reading all these great ideas they have for the car and how they're designing it with the enthusiast in mind. I want to see evidence of them on the final production model, not text from some random message board.

Subaru engines (and most of the other parts) are like Legos. If they really did design it with the same mount points as the EJ, it should be possible to swap pretty easily. The concerns I have are ECU compatibility (it is fairly easy to swap ECUs amongst WRXs, might not be the case with the ft86) and the fact that it's mounted lower which might make the oil pan sit too low. And it would probably require all custom plumbing unless they really really wanted to make it easy to swap and made it so that all the WRX pipes will fit in there. I don't think it will take long for someone to swap a built EJ motor in there if it is as easy as moto makes it sound.

That's plenty fast enough for me while I learn the dynamics of the car.
That calculator seems quite optimistic.
