3,000 mi oil-change

I changed my FR-S at 1,000 miles. I'll let the dealership do the next one.

And since they recommend 0-20 I figure they're smarter about this than I am. I'll use 0-20.

why did the toyota service shop say that the "worry of shavings" was nothing to fear due to the aluminum block or something and that shavings wont occur???

i got my FRS 1st oil change at exactly 2500 miles on the ODO

they had a problem giving me a receipt since they said i was scheduled for my first oil change at 7500 miles...

Doesn't make sense. Some parts are aluminum, some aren't. Regardless you'll get metal material circulating in the oil as the engine is run, especially during break in. Some metal will be trapped by the oil filter and some of the really small stuff won't be. Someone on the forum had a picture of metal shavings left in the oil after 1,000 miles, I believe.

Why would they not give you a receipt? I would get one to keep track of maintenance.

Should I keep the RPM's below 4000 for the first 1000 miles as well? i know a good break in could be the difference between having the car be great to 120,000 miles , or to 300,000 miles.

I might have went over a time or two, but don't beat on it too hard. I did a spirited break in period, basically driving it how I would once it was broken in except shifting sooner. My gas mileage average has steadily climbed from about 25 when I first got it to about 28.5 right now. The car drives and sounds great.

Now, take that with a grain of salt... I only have 1050 miles on it just in time for this big stupid storm. But my break in only took 10 days, woo!

Thanks a lot man helps a lot i do want this car to last as long as possible im going to try to hold onto it for many years. :-) so id like to do it the right way.

I revved it up to about 5500 today on an off ramp (downshifted to 3rd so I could play a little) and it pulls HARD. Sounds like a million bucks. I'm thrilled with how my break in went. I'm also going to stick a bunch of neodymium magnets to the oil filter in a cheap version of the filter mag. The filter mag is a great idea, but at 80 bucks... dang.

I found some 3/4" disc magnets on amazon for cheap, and a few 1/2" as well.

to grab the metal flakes? good idea. i may look into doing this if it gets wonderful results.
