HP Primacy tires on Max size wheels

Hey everyone

I tried looking through the old threads and I'm not sure if I've overlooked a similar thread. But I was wondering what's the largest wheel someone has/can put the stock HP Primacy 215/45 R17 tires on? I know some people may push the limits with the width.

Another question, I am lookin into rays gram light extremes at 18x8.5. What tires do you guys recommend? And also should I go with the 18x8.5 and new tires or the 17x7 and wrap them with the stock tires I already have? Thoughts and suggestions and criticism welcomed for my stupid questions. I know some would say the 17's are small and why waste such an expensive wheel on not as performance beefed tires. Am I right? Haha

Stock 17 OEM tires will not fit 18 in wheels. Not possible, well maybe but very dangerous and I don't know any place that will install them for you.

To answer your question about the width, i've seem people on here putting them on 8.5 width wheels. I'm contemplating about using them on my 8 inch width wheels.

If you go to the tire's specs page on Tire Rack, it will have a recommended width that the specific tire is designed for. What is acceptable for 'normal', not silly stretched.

I think 17x8's would be the widest you could go safely with the stock Primacy HP's. You could stretch beyond that, but you'd be pushing it.

17x9 would work just fine but it would look silly.

I think he had a separate question regarding the 18's. It would be entertaining to watch that happen though, but not on a Toyobaru.

actually, there's no performance reason to go with anything bigger than 17 for this car unless you're going to upgrade to a big brake kit. anything bigger than 17 just adding extra weight.

Haha I was just wondering. Regarding the stock tires. Just wondering what people have done if anything.

But yes, my separate question for 18 inch wheels, is what tires you guys running if I want to just keep it NA? I will eventually be getting a set of gram light 57 extremes.

For your second question: If you truly want performance, instead of 18x8.5, you should get a set of rim in 17x8 +/- with some new tires and call it a day. I would do 225/45/R17 front and 235/45/R17(or 245) rear.

Tires are cheaper in 17" vs 18", just something to think about.

Entirely false. There are plenty of 18" wheels that weigh less than the stockers. Most added weight when doing a tire/wheel swap is from the tire carcass itself.
