I'd recommend thinking about setting up a simulator. More information available in my ownership journal thread. It's really quite fun and good for the skills:

Rather rent a race car and hammer it around EC or wakefield for a day.

Nothing wrong with that, of course. Each to their own on how they spend their money and what they value. Regarding those tracks, though... iRacing are coming to scan Bathurst shortly and we're encouraging them to do EC+Wakey at the same time, since the logistics make sense. Oran Park is going to available even sooner as they scanned it before it was demolished.

Lucky for you LazyZed, Melville got me jack all - just the usual brochure and the usual disinterested oh, well let's see and wait - after we got all those bulletins re: production delays - it's beyond our control we don't really know when your car will be in production!

how long will it be before an 86 based company like MX5racing pops up and offers 86 renta-racers and 86 tarmac cars

I guess I am a bit lucky, but I was advised against Melville Toyota. Still, being pushed back a couple of months was disappointing if entirely expected my 300zx has a few minor leaks which I just have to keep a lid on until I sell her

I'm getting impatient! Nearly secured 2 GTS manuals but they both sold to walk ins while I was waiting on phone calls back. I am starting to think about m3s gtrs and evos which is not good.

I test drove one of those. Thought about buying it, then realised that it had dropped almost 20K in the last 1.5 years.

"comparing" a 370z and an 86 is not fair considering this is an 86 site. those 2 shouldnt be used in the same sentence when using the word "comparison". apart from this sentence/paragraph.

2 different animals.

however i do find it very surprising 2 or 3 other members and including myself will opt for one if our rides fail to make it to the delivery date or pushed out.

this thread however might be counter productive as there seems to be a building resentment towards toyota pushing current buyers and potential buyers to the competition. in this case Nissan and Mitsibushi.

i intend to love my 86 until i dont. just when i am falling out with it while awaiting delivery, i look at members delivered rides see one that is my spec and colour then thread search again and again. its futile but it helps the anxiety.

i was surprised at the pricing difference also between both cars, especially the new price for both. one is almost 2.5 times that of the other new.

makes me wonder what the 2013 86 market will be like new and used.

Shinjuku05, as you probably have watched in that 370z, 86, Cayman S video review, in the UK the Zed is priced very close to the 86, so thus people who's fallen out with Toyota will gravitate towards it (budget permitting, preferences etc).

As for me, I was willing to give Toyota a go in very good faith, only to be given very vague answers re: delivery dates (initially promised 4-5 months), and the final straw being you know what.

I originally had a 2006 350Z anyway so once the 86 is off the map, I naturally was gonna get a 370Z anyway.

Am very very happy with the Zed, but also hope that members among the many who are waiting for their cars, hopefully they won't have to wait too much longer and we'll see more 86's on the road, and members posting up their experiences, instead of "waiting list" stories!
