Technically, yes. Same as those that had COVID then also got the vaccine. Since your immune system is able to fight off the virus, the more "practice" it has the stronger it would be.

If that weren't the case, a booster (or even a second shot) wouldn't do much good.

One of a friend's employees had covid early on so he was convinced he was in the clear. Apparently Delta has gotten ahold of him and he's on a ventilator. Pride has a way of betraying us. Karma can be like that, too.

Unfortunate, there was data that came out recently (one was published by nature) that showed vaccination and prior infection had an equal likelihood of preventing novel infection. Don't think it examined lethality/severity in breakthrough infection though.

He definitely had covid or he is one of the people who think he did?

Apparently a moderate first case. Confirmed by testing I understand. I haven't seen numbers, but I read that breakthrough cases are on the rise. As to severity, I'm sure you've seen the same numbers I have that suggest to me (as do the analyses of folks smarter than me) that breakthrough infections are generally far less severe. But, not for everyone. Some immunized people seem to be getting quite ill. Some are dying.

If all that's true there's every reason to suspect that no matter how one acquired whatever immunity one has, Delta is only mildly impressed. And we're still in the early part of the Greek alphabet.

I've heard people claim they had covid 19 but were never tested. Trying to "impress " others during conversation. Imo bad karma. Fwiw loss of taste and smell was a common denominator in those I know who actually had it. Age and obesity seem to be factors in the virus's severity as well.

I was of the understanding that the mRNA vaccines were somewhere around 95% effective in preventing infection and previously it was though virtually no breakthrough infections were severe enough to require hospitalization. As with anything, the more the cases the more the likelihood of any particular outcome.

Think that's for alpha variant. For delta it seems like you're still well protected but breakthrough cases and severity of breakthrough cases seems to be higher (but mostly still mild)

My uneducated opinion is that this thing will go away once the Gov't stops handing out covid money. It will still be with us but we will look at it differently when there are no more financial or political gains to be exploited.

Remember every country is like a porous membrane next to all other countries. And those countries that are racking up staggering numbers probably don't have the money. I understand you're suggesting that people are capitalizing on the pandemic without public interest top priority, which may be true but...If other countries are racking up staggering numbers over a long period of time we all have a problem that will linger in one form or the other whether congress or whoever keeps throwing money at it. I say we, you understand since our border is fully open for vaccinated US travellers Sept 9, and it will never close for trade, ever.

My empathy to those in places getting restrictions as a result of a 4th wave, the one hopefully other areas keeps off thru vaccinations. It's a dangerous game challenging mother nature to deal a new hand in the form of other variants. So this is a two sided sword, infected today and potentially breeding a variant that decimates the effectiveness of billions of vaccines already administered tomorrow.

Meh that's one of the dumbest takes you've put out here :P

It's the same as when Trump said it'd be over by Easter or other people said it'd be over on Election Day.

(Blah blah yes I mentioned politics but it's a relevant statement)
