Now, that brings to mind a back in the day, back on the farm, story. We had about 40 acres of wooded land that my grandfather and father would slowly clear each year. We would harvest the lumber and get rid of the stumps by blowing them to smithereens with dynamite.
I was always after my grandpa to go out and watch him blow stuff up. One day when I was about 10 years old I ran across his hidden stash of dynamite in the upper reaches of an old tool shed. I was in the process of getting it down to blow some stuff up and noticed it was oozing some amber colored liquid. About that time, I got busted by my grandpa and he loaded up a mud boat (like a sled with rummers, pulled by a tractor) with the case of dynamite and a shovel. He made me go back into the house as he drove off somewhere on the farm to bury it. Although I looked, I never did find it - ![]() THE END |

We had the basement waterproofed awhile back and that required cutting out the bottom three steps and they were never quite right after being reinstalled. Also, the old staircase only had stringers on either side and after 60 years some of the treads were a might flexi. And, the wall behind the stairs was the last one that needing insulation.
“Most importantly”, the wifey wanted to spruce up the stringers because they were beat to hell, but they were also lead painted, so sanding them smooth wasn’t an option. |

I ordered my new oven weeks and weeks ago. It was supposed to be here monday. Just got a text from home depot; it's now backordered till mid February. Good thing my 1988 oven is still working. It's only 25° off.

Started working on installing double gate openers for two of the bays under the house. I ordered Topens openers as well as electric locks yesterday. Today I started running the power as there is a 200 amp box downstairs. This will allow us to park the cars under the house and out of the sun which will be a great improvement. The picture below is pretty old and was during construction but gives you an idea. The two bays on the right both have roughly 12' opening with two 6' gates that open outward. The gates are super light and there only real job is to keep the dogs in. Sure hope this works!!

Ordered a new clothes washer and dryer. Oven and dishwasher had to be replaced in the last 6 months. I guess it's the 10-ish year appliance tax coming due. Less money for car parts lol.
