Blasphemy! I know, but I need some help!

I want to strap a canoe to the top of my BRZ. I know what you're thinking, and Im not trying to get flamed with "its a sports car!" It's my only car and I love canoeing, I want to get creative but first I thought I'd ask for some input. Are there any good tie down locations on the BRZ? In the past I would tie the canoe down to the frame of the car, I don't see any options on the BRZ.

The BRZ is a Subaru and Ergo sporty or not I will make this work. I have little foam booties to protect the hood paint and the Canoe can't weigh more than 50lbs. I've got lots of rope, I just need to know where to tie it to and if I have to tie it through the window so be it.

Is the canoe longer than the car? Make sure to use a roof rack for the middle support...

You can use the rear tow hooks on the rear and possibly work something out with the front bumper beam in the front. Sadly, the front only has a single tie down point (front tow hook). It might work if the canoe is offset though...

You got the wrong vehicle - you need something like a first gen Miata with a roll bar to transport a canoe...

But seriously - you need to secure the front from lifting up, catching wind, and launching itself off the car. Definitely thinking you need a roof rack to distribute the weight to areas that won't crush when strapped down with force. The canoe may only weigh 50 pounds, but you gotta secure it with more than 50lb of force, plus whatever forces the wind applies at speed. Could be hundreds of pounds.

Is there a tow hook on left and right sides in front? You could maybe secure it to both and triangulate the force to also stabilize left/right movement. In the rear you might find a spot to tie down or else improvise something as long as you're not crushing the plastic bumper cover with a tightened rope.

Overall, this will be a bit of a challenge. Risk to car damage is great. Maybe take up kayaking instead...

I think i would strap that to my head and find a bus or truck to hitchhike before i even attempted to do that. you need to find more friends with big trucks... srry man, but i can't even begin to picture that ...

It's a sport utility sports car There is a TON of room in the trunk. I was quite impressed.

I know you're not supposed to tow things in the BRZ, but why not a small canoe trailer

I spent a lot of time thinking about this and I felt my two options would be....

1. Take another car/buy a $500 pickup truck

2. Inflatable canoe. It depends on what kind of environment you plan to canoe/kayak in (aquatic, mostly, I imagine) but for my application...a steady, gentle, man-made lake with no large motorized boats, it would work just fine.

Yeah unfortunately the toe hooks are offset so that isn't going to work. The bumper covers are too flimsy and low to put any weight against them.


Find a friend with a truck?

If someone comes out with a trailer hitch I would second a small canoe trailer.

Yup, after closer inspection it's looking pretty bleak. Im not going to tie it down to plastic and my canoe is made of metal and is fairly large as far as canoes go. Will post pictures if I get the thing tied down
