I agree with the others saying to wait on FI. I went with catback exhaust, headers, and a tune. Those seem to be the most effective power mods without getting into the weeds in terms of needing further refinement.
My Tomei UEL headers, Corsa catback black tips, and the ecutek compete kit (includes license and tune) all cost about $3k on 86 Speed. Just save the other $2k for a rainy day. It all makes sense until you spent the $5k and something comes up and you’re broke as chit...speaking as a former college kid not long ago
