potentially something odd about the shift interlock. simply turn the car on enough to shift, without starting, shift the car to neutral, then try starting it. could also try forcing the shifter further into park.

I experienced the exact same thing once when I left the trunk lid slightly open overnight after getting some groceries out of the back.

Couple hours on the battery charger and car flashed right up.
