Extra gains suggestions on N/A
While I save for either turbo or supercharger, I want to get the most (safely) from my N/A setup. Off the bat, E85 is out of the table because it's difficult to get it where I live. I searched, trust me. So far I have:
Inlet Tube with drop in air filter Lightweight crank, alternator, water pump pulleys JDL UEL catted (Emissions and headache witching to stock) headers. Overpipe Stage 2 Tune OFT Double resonated FP Q300 Catback. Honestly I'm mostly curious to see what people look for to maximize their N/A set ups. This is for educational purposes more than anything.

1.Ditch catted header.
2.Beyond that, boat load of cash for marginal gains.

I cant get rid of them. Though I understand the slight edge from Uncat over Cat, I'm trying to keep my tires from being slashed and tickets. Where I live cops are super anal about it.

I don't see the value in a pulley upgrade. You'd probably be better off with a lightweight flywheel if you wanted the engine to feel livelier.
Front pipe and catback are basically noise mods. Worth pursuing if you want to tune for sound. Very small to no gains compared to money spent. |

I've seen the debates around pulleys and placebo effect. Ever since I added them I felt a slight increase in responsiveness and more than anything rev matching became even easier. That plus sale and 20% off extra, it was hard to say no.

I do agree with the FP and catback. They offer little to nothing. It was mostly for sound. Guilty pleasures we all have.

Pay for a good custom tune. Put original crank pulley back on and go with light weight flywheel. CF drive shaft is a good way to lose rotational mass. Driver mass reduction works also if it is needed. Don not go wide on tires/wheels go light with good compound.

Great suggestion, bit pricey for CF but doable. Never ever will I go wide wheels, camber, lowered set up. Hence my exhaust setup, conservative.

Why not just put that money towards your boost budget
Seems like a better option to me then spending money on marginal gains.

There are loads of things that can be done to the NA engine but none will add up to much more than a header and a tune. Some will even counter the gains made by others. The gains made from modes are not just simply adding the claimed rate from one to the next item in a linier manner. It all has to work as a package so adding random bits and pieces is just pouring money don the drain unless you happen to accidently hit the right combination. The thing is that these cars are already pretty much designed for performance so changing bits out won't give you the same sort of improvement you would get from changing the same part on a Civic LX or a 2001 Neon sedan.

ITBs, stroker kit, and a louder exhaust for placebo effect

After 7 years of forum threads, it seems that header, tune and e85 are about it. You might be underwhelmed after you get used to it. Driving a stocker at that point will be a good idea just to remind you where you came from

What's the current thought on power blocks for a car that'll stay N/A? Seems some disagreement about them in the threads I've read on here.
