that's exactly how they have in the B'Mers. I do it all the time in my parents car when approaching a speed cam I go 55-60 then you tap the paddle. To get off the CC just tap the brakes or accelerate as if you're driving normal.

id be keen for auto fold mirrors and windows winding up when you hit the lock button twice.

so once just locks door (in case there's someone in car who wants window down) and then once more for mirrors and windows..

though i'd want the mirrors to unfold when i unlocked... but not the windows down..

That would be righteous. And what a crazy world we live in when I have to make that an aftermarket request. (And please don't bother telling me why it's so; I don't need to hear it.)
Apologies for my ignorance but are you saying the center read out isn't accurate? I haven't been checking both dials and read out at the same time but as far as i'm aware it seems pretty good?

and +1 for the power folding mirror, although it might be bad if you were parking at a tight spot and the mirror unfolds before you cleared the car.

I think he means actual road speed, as manufactures set their speedo's about 5km/h below the actual speed.

Yep, Indicated Speed does not equal Actual Speed. Indicated Speed is usually greater than Actual Speed by a relative difference to the tune of 5-10%. Examples:
  • When your speedo reads 100, you're probably closer to 90 than 100 actual.
  • When your speedo says 50 you're probably closer to 50 than 40 actual.

If it was done properly, all that kind of customisation would be possible. That way, you don't have to get windows closed with one-tap lock but others can have it. Car manufacturers are still stuck in the dark ages on this stuff. It would be silly for aftermarket suppliers to be just as lame.

I've always wondered why this was... =S
I mean, I come from an engineering background and I KNOW that it's actually quite trivial to implement the window functionality. It seems there is a demand for these features (even though they seem gimmicky) so why not make it happen?

The unfortunate reality is probably best captured by Gore Vidal's quote: "Litigation takes the place of sex at middle age."

It's all been covered before in my ownership thoughts thread, but I know that's a long read.

Exactly -- but my current Tom Tom runs on my iPhone and until http://www.proclipusa.com/ support the 86, seeing the screen is not as easy as I'd like (so I have to remember what Indicated equals what Actual during calibration exercises; not the end of the world but not ideal). Hopefully they'll have us supported before too long (at least according to another thread on here).

At some point soonish I imagine installing a 7" tablet to replace the OEM head unit (or a head unit with mirrorlink-style thingie). I'll then consider running an OBD-II bluetooth sensor to it, amongst other things, as I imagine the app market will blossom. All the kind of stuff discussed in the article Clouds, Gestures & Assistants - Incar Control.

So, it's been a while since we made this list. Anyone know if these are purchasable yet?
