I'd be very happy if gen two had no more 'safety equipment' than the current platform.

Unfortunately they don't care what I think..and neither does the idiot general public.

OK, so then how about a radio with push buttons...

My current touch screen doesn't work so well, after I've punched it numerous times with my right fist.

Edit after reading others comments:

I don't want less road noise. I detest a too quiet car.

I don't want a nicer interior. The original FRS/BRZ interior rocks for style and sportiness.

I am not seeing a 255HP 86. The GR Supra 2.0 is coming out with a 4 cylinder, 255HP at around $40K. No one will buy that, if you can get a 255HP 86 for say $34-35K. We shall see....

The rumors are 250ish horsepower with a nicer interior.

I'd like a little less road noise.

If I were to take a guess at what I think is REALISTIC....

I'd say probably an NA version of the FA24 used in the Ascent. Around 220-230hp. Some nicer interior components. A bit less road noise. Weight probably up to just shy of 2900lbs. Still 6MT and 6AT transmission options.

Probably starting at just shy of 30k. With a higher tier (limited) trim around 32k.

The veiled hints from the few that actually know anything but can't say would indicate that is not even close. None of the original design teams are on the new project. My guess is it is headed to a more mainstream higher volume market. My guess is we will see something closer to a two door, RWD, Corolla and would not be at all surprised if it was a hybrid. It will be jam packed with all the crap the modern car buyer wants and have at least 6 cup holder.

If, and it is a big IF, the project is even still moving ahead at all.
I think you will be very glad you picked up the Hakone while you still can. I know that is the reason I did.

Ah. I haven't been following. There's always so much speculation with regards to these new cars, I just tune it all out honestly lol. But yeah, sounds like the first gen may be the one to have - if a more simplistic and enjoyable driving experience is what you're after.

Only way I'd be upset about getting the Hakone is if it was more power, higher revving, and more refined while maintaining the same weight and keeping roughly the same price. Basically like what happened for the 2019 MX5 lol. Just a bit better in many ways, without really increasing in price. I would've been a bit salty had I bought an 18 MX5.

Same weight and price are probably way off the table no matter what they do with it.

Exactly. Ergo, I'm happy with my Hakone

I think the present generation of 86 might be the last toyota car to be offered with a manual transmission.
