There are plenty of cars for people that want a bigger car. (Or more expensive)

I can't stress enough how much I feel the last point is super important. I wouldn't own my car if it cost much more new. I didn't want another 7 year loan, like I had on my truck.

I am really excited to see a resurgence in activity on this forum!

This is one of those dilemmas where I also want it to be essentially the same, but I'm only likely to buy one if it is significantly better in some way... . I guess my wishlist is the same but better?

Actually, it would be really cool to see some real differences between BRZ and 86. Competing engines for example. Never gonna happen, and would really mess with the aftermarket support, but it would be fun to mix it up...

I'm not saying a little more sound isn't nice, to a point, but I cannot see it being a thing with the next new model, if there is one.

People buying new cars want quite cars, it's only the 1% of owners that want louder.

If you want louder the aftermarket is there for you.

I may be a bit jaded from all all the obnoxiously loud cars, where people in their low powered cars throw on a loud exhaust to impress their 13 year old friends.

Around here there are dozens of idiots with loud exhausts and bang tunes cruising the streets being obnoxious for the sake of being obnoxious.

Personally I prefer to be stealthy, being loud for the sake of being loud screams "look at me".

I agree. I can certainly appreciate a nice sounding exhaust, but there's nothing more annoying than having to roll your windows up because some douche is making noise like 5 cars ahead. There's no point in making this car louder from factory. If you like to keep it quiet, leave it stock. If you want noise, go aftermarket. Simple

I have never said about a noise that it so loud that would annoy other people. My car's exhaust sound on the 4000/4500 rpm is just great for my taste. I just wished that range would be extended. I think that is a reasonable wish for a sports car.

I remember I liked driving a 103hp 130nm car more than a 240hp 320nm car, mainly because of it's sound. If power was my only concern, I would not buy a BRZ.

I really cannot believe I had to explain myself about this. I think this car is a sports car; not a comfortable, silent, fast, family sedan. I still believe most people bought this car would like a car like that.

I think you misunderstood my intent. I was not saying don't wish for it but simply why I think it is not going to happen. I am one of the sub sub group that prefers and has a louder exhaust. We are however the minority when buying this car new.

I don't have a slightest hard feelings to you Tcoat. I have hard feelings to those statistics. I hope Japanese guys don't see or ignore them. Or make a lighter, less isolated, more loud option. But even it's produced, such options generally don't come to my country. I think, the cars are getting more and more silent, with less and less feeling in every way. I don' say they are bad. A BMW 5 series is an awesome car. It is fun in a way. But I say, there are other ways, lets keep some of them.

Wish they would put in a dual clutch transmission instead of a 6-speed. But that is highly unlikely for the price point and Toyota nor Subaru has the dual clutch tech.

I'm fine with a quiet exhaust if the engine sounds good.

One reason I went aftermarket was to drown out the sound of gravel in a blender.

To Subaru's credit, I test drove a 2017 and to my ears it no longer sounded so much like a tractor. I think it could be a bit more sporty in the sense that I would like the engine to sound a bit more distinct at the top, rather than just being a louder version of the bottom.

There are also the legal aspects to consider. Many of the guys with really loud cars have removed their cats which of course is against federal law in most developed countries. Even some of the louder cat back systems are going to exceed the acceptable (legal) noise levels in many areas. But, Toyota (at least in North America) does offer a dealer installed exhaust option (TRD) that is a fair bit louder but still within most legal limits. Not sure if Subaru offers the STi version as an option or not. There are also dozens of different aftermarket options out there for people that want more sound so they will build the car for the law and average buyer and the modders can do as they wish.

The stats on the new car buyers do show a story. Where do all the young guys buying reasonably priced, low mileage, well maintained cars think they come from? Other young guys? Not likely.

Just want to add a note: There is no aftermarket market thing for this car in my country. No reliable tuners ready to tune it, like the German hot hatches. I love the loudest vehicles (almost all kind), however I would really hate bothering other people with a stupid exhaust sound (to them). All I'm talking is an affordable theater, and feel while driving. I think that can be achieved within reasonable and legal outside noise levels, in a stock car.

A little extra growl would make the twins that much more fun. You have to admit the stock exhaust is very quiet. I don’t want “Mustang GT with headers and no mufflers loud”, but the twins deserve a more sporty sound. The intake is easy enough to fix, but a new exhaust system gets expensive.

An exhaust is nice (& a must) to let you know what the car/engine is doing when racing. On the street I like it quite like an EV.

I'm not a very picky person. When I owned my BRZ there were really only 2 things I didn't care for. The engine and the stereo head unit.

So for a 2nd gen, really I just want more power. Leave everything else alone. Seriously, just an extra 25-30 hp and 10-15 lb-ft more torque. And keep pricing within $1000 of current MSRP's.

If there was one thing that might make me consider an MKII (besides dropping a supercharged flat 6 in it) it would be if they went back and produced the Concept II. That's the car I really wanted...
