I would prefer they produce a 2+2 coupe, like the twins. Hard to imagine a roadster smaller than the miata succeeding in the NA market.

if they go the S route and do something like 34K Msrp It wouldn't work either, especially not with the FT86 Open somewhere around being considered, or possibly built.

That's insanely ugly haha
The S2k was absolutely gorgeous if you ask me, and so were NA miatas, seeing as that's what I was going to blow my down payment cash on instead of the BRZ lol.
But I mean a 2000 lb curb weight would be insane, and if they have that 150+ whp it would be quite the car.
I saw someone post about sticker price, the sticker on the s2 was pretty high, the miatas are comparable to our twins and other than that the "budget" convertible is really not a huge market. I mean for under 40k you have a mustang, a camaro and a mx5. Other than that for rear wheel fun to drive convertibles that aren't made my Porsche I think we're s.o.l

Less 'potent' than the current miata, about as potent as the 20 year old miata (1.8L)... It'd be cool but would probably sell like the MRS Spyder.

I doubt that as well, for the record Lotus Exige is between 2,000 and 2,100. Fiat Abarth is around 2,500 lbs, Fiesta ST is around 2,600 lbs.

I think a 1.5L in a sub 2,500 lb car would be reasonable with 150+ hp, ideally hitting the same as the miata around 170 which is reasonable given S2000 performance and the technological improvements. Don't forget cost is a factor.
There was know way it could be 2k in the u.s 2,400k and a little above seem about right

They are on the right track.. use a mass produced existing power plant. That always helps bring the cost down and they can easily reuse/revise the Aisin transmission and S2k rear differential. Unlike the S2k, not a lot of "new" has to be developed for this theoretical car and that's smart.

Smart ForTwo has a curb weight of 1600lbs. It's feasible to make a tiny 2 seater roadster at 2200lbs, maybe 2300. I think 2000lbs might be a stretch if you're going to make it affordable enough to sell well.

I hate to say it.. I really do but throw in the 137lb IMA system from the CRZ for boost in city MPG and I'm sold. I mean, it's only 137lbs and if I could get 45mpg city in a sports car again I'd be quite interested in that.

I had a 2009 Fit Sport 5MT with the L15 engine prior to my FR-S, and that thing was a hoot to drive. It it only had 117 HP. Bump it to 150 in a lighter rwd car and watch out! But that thing is butt-ugly.

Looks like the unholy love child of a Miata and Sid from Ice Age. Someone should have been fired for this.

2000lbs would not be for the North American market, and since we already know the weight of the current Miata, good luck dropping hundreds of pounds from a similar sized car to make 2k lbs. I agree that this would likely be a Beat replacement, Miata clone or something along the lines of a Del Sol successor than a true S2K sequel.

Example:
Alpha Romeo 4C to be 220lbs heavier due to U.S. Regulations

Quote:
With dimensions of 157 inches long, 73 inches wide and 46.5 inches tall, the 4C is about the same length as a Mazda Miata but is lower and wider. Thanks to its curb weight of just under 2,000 pounds and the 241-horsepower, 1.8-liter four-cylinder, acceleration from 0-60 should happen in less than 4.5 seconds to go with a top speed of 160 miles per hour. Like the car itself, extra space is limited in the 4C with just 3.8 cubic-feet of space available for cargo.

That's Alfas fault, they weren't aware of the regulations, i bet if they knew those regulations from the start the added weight wouldn't be there.

Honda dropped the ball on their fun cars lineup ages ago. Everything they make nowadays seems like a let down. Toyota used to be the boring japanese company but now Honda takes the crown...

For those saying it's ugly, that's because the publication literally took this picture of a Solstice:

And chopped a Honda concept front end onto it.. Something similar to the N4:

And this is why, until Honda actually shows off their own concept, the rendering should be considered 100% fake.

Alfa Romeo is owned by Fiat, I'm sure they are well aware of safety regulations in the U.S.

Unless we're talking ridiculously small cars, it's next to impossible to bring a 2,000 lb car to market in the U.S. and keep it U.S. crash worthy.

Smart ForTwo - 1,808 lbs
Scion IQ - 2127 lbs
Chevy Spark - 2269 lbs
Fiat 500 - 2363

Until new materials and technology are invented and mass-marketed any new Honda won't likely be 2000 lbs either. You can't cheat physics.
