Hi all!

Had a blast doing my first HPDE in my '17 BRZ yesterday. There was one big braking zone where I figured we were suppose to go from 4th to 3rd to 2nd. One time as I was attempting this sequence, I got into 2nd too "early" in the braking zone, meaning that the wheel speed was still too high. When I glanced down quickly, I recall seeing 64mph, which means roughly 8300rpm in the engine, assuming that the rear wheels spun at the same speed as the front.

That freaked me out good and I learned to wait a little bit to downshift into 2nd in that corner

Questions:

Assuming that I did get the engine, for a brief moment, to 8300rpm, am I okay if I don't notice anything wrong with the engine? It completed its last 20-min session and got me home safely with no noticeable side effects.
Does the ECU record max RPM reached? Can I hook up an ECU dongle to find out for sure?

If you're not hearing any abnormal sounds from the valve train I would call it a day and not worry too much about it. There isn't anything you can do at this point.

Going for a brief moment at very high RPMs won't break the engine. Next time log your ECU during the track event. It'll give you valuable information of how the car behaves like temperatures or knock events. If you could combine this information with GPS data, then you can see also your times in detail and maybe where you could improve.

Over rev failure is one of those things where it breaks something, or it doesn't. You'd be hearing some clattering if you broke a spring

your car gave you a second chance. I agree with the others, find a way to datalog and review it after events! You'll definitely feel more connected with the car

I am as well! If (or when) I get a new one I will probably be offering to swap with an preface lift set.

If any broke, it would've broken right away or shortly thereafter.
I've never reached 8.3K rpm, but I've revved to 8K several times with no issues.. over the course of 60K+ miles at least.
