You could use one of these to test the ethanol content in your fuel: Ethanol Tester

Without having to read the whole thing, how do you read that chart?

Basically, class 1 is minimum 79% ethanol, class 2 is 74% min., class 3 is 70% min.

So has autoblip been permanently dropped from the tune now? Somebody said earlier it did not work very well but did not specify the issue. Does it not re-match correctly on downshift? Can it be "custom requested" if you buy a stage 1 tune?

Having a viable and effective auto-blip would be a major factor in a buy decision for me and I suspect many others - hell, the New Vette and the new Cayman are following the footsteps of the 370Z - autoblip has been added as a standard feature to the 2014 MT models.

It was kind of like the 370Z autoblip, but not as smart. If it sensed you had the brake pedal down and then depressed the clutch pedal, then the ECU would wait for you to disengage the current gear at which point it applies a pre-specified amount of throttle blip. In theory, that's all good and well, but rough around the edges in actual practice. Since it was applying a "static" amount of blip, the blips really only worked right at certain situations.

For it to be truly effective it would need to sense what gear you are about to engage, cross-reference your current vehicle speed with the appropriate engine RPM for the gear you are about to engage and then apply the appropriate amount of throttle to match the engine speed to the value in the table. More of a dynamic blip vs the static type blip in the initial version.

That being said, I'm not sure if the reason that auto-blip development stopped was due to the poor initial reception of the first release, or if there was a technical roadblock making what I described above not possible with the stock hardware. I imagine the biggest stumbling block would be identifying what gear you're about to engage before you've actually engaged it.

Personally, I find heel-toe shifting to be stupid easy in these cars with the stock pedals, and see no real need for auto-blip, although I do appreciate the cool factor.

I found it to be a problem when i would forget i was on a map with auto blip. I always like to heel toe when i shift i tried to heel toe and the car also bliped hit redline messed up my shift never used auto blip again.

I just request that John adds it to my maps, he has no problem doing this.

I find it works great, it does a static blip as soon as you engage the clutch with the brake.

It takes some time to get used to however once you get a idea of how much it blips it flawless.

Only one that it has a tough time matching for me is if i force it to blip 3rd to 2nd, it doesnt quite give enough blip to make the difference of the gears up close to redline in 2nd.

One thing that has caught me offguard is accelerating and then someone cuts me off and i end up braking and tossing in a higher gear and it blips a 4th to 5th shift for something lol

People really need rev matching downshifts? I've never had a problem rev matching downshifts in any of my cars, it's instinctive if you practice it a bit. I can rev match perfectly in any manual car after an hour or so of driving, once you get used to the throttle responsiveness.

Been driving stick my entire life and i have 0 problems rev matching.

The part that i don't like doing is heel toe rev matching on hard braking(which most people dont do everyday). My feet just dont like to do it and the pedal's never seem in the right spot. I felt this way on my WRX as well as my STI. The FRS is easier to do it with but it just too much energy unless on the track.

when the autoblip is correctly tuned on ecuteks software it works like a charm. the 'default' settings leave much to be desired. with multi map switching, you can select a map with or without it. its helpful for longer road trips in the twisties

Great discussion. Re identifying upcoming gear: the logic would be pretty simple in most situations: Heavy braking or speed dropping = downshift coming up. At level speeds though there is a problem unless the ECU can determine the direction of the shift lever movement just after it passes through neutral and blip before the shift completes and engages the gears. Obviously Nissan, Porsche, and GM have figured this out...
