Just spitballing, but there's a ton of opportunity for time savings in there somewhere.

...I have never been a fan of auto updating on any system where it isn't paramount to the security of the device...(microsoft products)

you would want to know what features are enabled/disabled with each update and any conflicts since these cars are becoming more and more individual...just my .02 tuning shouldn't be taken so lightly as a firmware update to a directTV box...if there is a conflict you may be notified by a cacophony of bad noises, or an unfamiliar driving experience, I would never opt for my ECU to be auto updated....heck i dont even like upgrading the firmware on a Standalone...once it works and is setup and tuned...leave it alone is a good way to keep it together.

I'm sure it could be made to display any release notes and prompt you before applying any updates.

besides, the cable isn't going to sneak out with your laptop in the middle of the night to go update your ECU when you're not looking.

Sweet!!! For those who added on your e85 map I'm assuming that will be one of the four maps. Also since the autos do not have as many features as the manuals what will our map layout look like? Something like this would be cool for those with Stge 1 and e85. Thoughts? Though I could do without the A/F reading and Fuel Tank % if it's causing the fuel gauge to act up. I'm already using Torque for A/F readings. I would be good with just simple stge1 to e85 map switching.

Map 1 - e85 Tune + 8000RPM Rev Limiter in 2nd Gear + A/F Reading
Map 2 - e85 Tune + 8000RPM Rev Limiter in 2nd Gear + Fuel Tank %
Map 3 - Stge 1 Tune + 8000RPM Rev Limiter in 2nd Gear + A/F Reading
Map 4 - Stge 1 Tune + 8000RPM Rev Limiter in 2nd Gear + Fuel Tank %

I'm excited for the flex fuel tune. Then all maps could adjust to fuel AND once it's refined enough could add a few gallons of pumpgas to the tank for better startups and cold weather performance. Guessing it will adjust to actual ethanol % once in its final form?

Curious to hear about the E85 stuff, too. Gonna pull the trigger on that functionality soon. You know... for the track.

I hear you. To do this right, each 'generated' tune file would be passed through a verifier to make sure all variables are within a set of limits. Our ECUs are pretty awesome as far as what's possible. Definitely approaching set-top box reliability/programmability.

You didn't get the sentient cable version from John? Maybe it was only the first so many purchasers of the groupbuy...

Anyway, be afraid. The cable is alive.

Auto updates can be bad. Look what happened in I, Robot to Will Smith. Your DTRL will turn red and your evil Toyoburu will try to kill you.
