The second fan will also kick on if it's too hot, not just when the AC is on. Removing the second fan could lead to overheating at slow speeds on hot days.

yeah I'm going to leave it alone. since its all connected to one shroud looks like a pain to take out. I'm used to other cars where each fan has its own shroud. Plus I like being able to still push the AC button to kick on both fans.

Does anyone have the weight of the stock shroud/dual fan setup??? can't find it anywhere. Mishimoto makes a claimed lighter setup at 7.5lbs. If it is 5lbs or more lighter than I would pay the $275 for it

Have you considered moving the alternator to where the AC compressor was and deleting a few pulleys?

sounds complex I'm not going to do that.

Leaving the door open to add my AC back in since it was only 15lbs lost

The AC delete was one of my first mods after the better wheels & tires. My car was already lighten from the factory, so there wasn't much to remove in other areas like spare wheel or sound deadening material. Yes the weight gain of the delete is not that big, but it also matters where this weight is located. The AC compressor sits quite high in the engine bay. I would never consider to put it back, unless this was my daily driver or I was living in a very warm climate.

Thankfully I got the AC fixed in my corvette to drive on hot days. But you are absolutely right the AC compressor is located on the drivers side (heaviest side) and up high.

This is what is needed to get it out. It's housed in the black part or the HVAC unit right above the Trans tunnel. It unscrews from the bottom so the whole unit has to come out. I disconnected the electrical ECU's on the passenger side and cut all the tape holding the harness to the dash bar. Peeled it back and took the unit out. I did a lot of research before doing this and it wasn't too horrible. I would do it again, but there's something wrong with me lol

There's an additional 1.75lbs of insulation behind it and some sound deadening on the Trans tunnel that I can get to now. I'll post that weight when it's out.

Tom,

I did weigh both the shroud and fans when I had them out. The shroud was 2lbs. I think the fans were right around there too. I'll weigh them again to confirm.

Thanks but last summer I went and bought the Mishimoto slim fan setup hoping to lose weight. It was the same weight as stock. I tried to removed the driver side fan to lose ~3lbs but the other fan wouldn't turn on without both connected so I put it back in.

Bigger thanks for dash removal pic. I am currently working on lightening weight out of the dash bar running across, its 17lbs of heavy steel. Nice to know that there is more weight to lose behind the dash.

Between the dash beam, AC condenser, and insulation should I should be able to get 10-15lbs off the car

Great stuff as usual - very informative. Big thanks for sharing these updates. Is the car getting closer to about 2400 lbs now or is it even lower than that?

Nice. I reinstalled it all today. The HVAC was a piece of cake. 5 nuts/bolts and 5 minutes.

I struggled with the dash bar for an bit with another guy on the other end. It kept wanting to turn towards the front of the car. It was becoming a royal pain in the ass. Time to walk away for a bit...

The design is great. Each side has two pins that the car rests on. You get it there and you're golden. I ended up using a bottle jack under the steering column, l lifted it less than a half inch and the drivers side popped right into place. Then I just had to lift the passenger side into place and bolt it back in.

I ended up cutting all of the tape holding the electrical harness in place to makes things easier. A simple job to tie wrap them back on, so it was worth it. I'm chasing unused electrical now and that'll take a while.

The HVAC box is 13lbs without the Evap Core. I will be working on replacing that with something else next winter. I'm sure I can lose 8lbs there.

Im at 2375. Messing around in the dash can get me to 2360. After that its all big money for Dry Fenders, hood, roof with minimal loss. I maybe finished for a while after I do the under dash stuff. $$/lb at this point isn't worth it, although all that weight would be off the nose.

Is there any weight difference between plastic and aluminum intake manifold?
