I have a citizen-eco drive from 2002. It's titanium and has survived a motorcycle accident and still have the original bracelet. I bought it because it was strong and light, and never had to replace batteries on it. Best watch I've ever owned. $600 brand new

Kinda want to get a white one, but wish other colors were available still.

With that said, I think a watch is just for checking the time. I have friends who wear watches that go for 2-5k but I don't totally get it. Expensive watches are for making first impressions (at least helping with them). Depending on what field of work you're in, they can have some benefit. This is going to sound really stupid to most people, even those that like fancy watches but it's the truth.

It's the only piece of jewelry I wear. And it happens to tell the time, and it looks really classy, even if I'm wearing it in conjunction with a skate T-shirts, shorts, and backwards DC hat. Also looks good in professional work clothes as well. It's just personal tastes and likes.

I love my titanium Citizen Eco-Drive. I wear it 24/7 and it has outlasted a few of the bones in my body. It was a graduation present years back and honestly at the time I didn't think to much of expensive watches but now I think it was the perfect gift.

No, its more like something that is generally accepted but often contested via exceptions... precious metals, gems, traditional designs/movements, and high quality/detail are all hallmarks of a gentleman's watch; yet like sports cars the qualifications can be achieved with compromises.

It does have a small 86 logo on the front and the back. The pattern on the face is also the same as the one you find everywhere on the actual car (grill, dash, etc). Also as was mentioned earlier, the three colors represent the three concepts.

I had a Citizen Eco-Drive Skyhawk once. They really are great watches so I have no problem getting an 86 badged one. As for the other colors I found them all on ebay from $550 - $750. Just search "Citizen 86"

Hope that helps either of you.

when it comes to watches $400-$500 is a cheap watch

For instance a lot of people think Rolex's are the most expensive but even though they have a few very very expensive watches there are several other brands which rival and even trump rolex.

For instance Omega watches, a Seamaster Planet Ocean Chrono start around $5000, and can go upwards of $40,000 for the red gold watch.

Jaeger LeCoultre watches start around $10,000 and go upwards of $60-70K if not more.

Would I spend $60,000 on a watch? probably never (maybe if I win the lotto LOL) but I would spend $5000-$6000 on a nice Omega

Since probably 99.9% of the watches sold in the world cost about a 10th to a quarter of that, I'm not sure I'd call it "cheap". I'd say moderate.

I don't know this for a fact, but I would bet though that over time the watches in that range do become more the better sellers. Since most folks don't bother with them any longer since we are surrounded by devices that show the time, they have become more of a fashion statement than a "necessity"....

<We pause while Dadhawk searches for some "facts" to back up his claims>

OK, 99.9% was a bit much, but I wasn't far off.

A little Internet searching I did find this, that pretty much confirms that thought. This is from 2010-2011 data, but it appears the average price of a watch in 2010 in the UK was 75GBP ($118), and in 4Q11 was 89GBP ($140) using today's conversion rates.

Since that is average, that means there were a heck of a lot of watches sold below that price to make up for the ultraexpensive ones. In fact, in that same article it shows that 58% of watches sold in the Netherlands cost less than 58 Euros by volume but 40% of the value was in watches costing >300 Euros.

well said, I do agree $400-$500 is a moderate range for a watch since there are such expensive watches out there. Since I work in Beverly Hills I guess my sense of "cheap" has changed a bit haha.

Yea, that will do it every time! You need to get out and visit WalMart World in the suburbs on occasion. Good excuse to drive. :happy0180:
