Heh, it’s mostly from country highways, not tailgating on the Interstate. Some of them are self-rockings. Especially the big boo-boo on the rear bumper cover which I got driving Twisted Sisters with nary another soul around.

It doesn't come through well in pics. It has to be seen in 3D to be appreciated. I will try though.

You can be as far back as traffic permits and still have no place to go even if you see it coming. You do not have to be tailgating or even close to get nailed. I got hit by a tail light assembly that came off a car that was two in front of me. It flew off, hit the highway bounced over the car in front of me and came down square on the top of my bumper.. I saw it coming and due to traffic there was fuck all I could do about it. There is no special driving skill that can protect you from such situations no matter how smug or sure of your superior driving skills you may be.

I know you know this, but posting for others. It's far better to take the hit than to swerve.

Because I like you, I'll give you a chance to catch your physics mistake in this one.

I am traveling 130. The focks coming at me are doing at least 80. That gives a combined speed of over 200. Don't see any mistakes

So rocks kicked up by vehicles traveling the same direction as you suddenly are traveling backwards at 80 kph?

Quick reminder, when your tire touches the ground while driving, the tread making contact with the pavement (and flinging rocks) has ZERO velocity for that instant. As the contact patch lifts up, it begins traveling with a forward velocity. It does not fling rocks backward. It flings rocks FORWARD and up. They only seem like they are coming at you because they are decelerating as you run into them.

The only time rocks are flung backward would be in a rallying type scenario, or some other situation with wheelspin where the tread is actually moving backwards as it contacts the ground.

Spuds wins this one :P

Well rocks get thrown at me at high velocity every day so I guess I just have to tell them it is impossible. They are flung from threads and can release at any point not jut up and over.

No, that's just the rocks people are throwing at you because PHYSICS!!!! Also, this is definitely a thread where rocks are coming at you.

The bottom of the wheel is stationary, the top of the wheel is moving in the same direction as the car but at twice the speed. The center of the wheel is moving at the same speed as the car body in the same direction. What part of the car accelerates anything rearwards?

It seems fast, but that's the same speed (or less) something like a deer would come at you if it suddenly appeared in front of you.
